How far out is too far out to plan a Disney vacation?

We did a preliminary RSVP once our date was penciled in. As an Escape wedding, that was 12 months about. We did a newsletter with some basic info and pre-RSVP that asked them to check one of three options:

We definitely plan on attending.

We are unsure of our plans at this time.

We definitely do not plan on attending.

HTH.

I think 9-12 mos out is good. That should be a fair amount of time for people to save. Most families (we're a family of 5 here) plan family vacations a year or less in advance. We're sending our STDs to the people outside of FL 9 mos in advance and to the Floridians 6 months in advance. Instead of doing a pre-RSVP we are sending a planning guide (some call them newsletters) out with our STD and in the intro it says that if you are positive that you won't be able to make it and want to be excluded from future mailings (ie: invitation) then to please email me. It is a little more detailed and mentions limited space, etc. If you want the exact wording I can copy and paste it for you.

Due to how much it would cost our guests I let them know that I was planning on getting married in Florida 2 and half years before (just after we got engaged) and then I sent out save the dates exactly 2 years out from the date I'm hoping for.

I figured if it were meaning being invited to a destination wedding then I would want to know asap

Even if I don't send a save the date, I assume its ok to warn them in casual conversation that they might want to start saving.

This is exactly what I have been doing. Trying to warn people that may need longer to save and that I know I MUST have there with me like my MOH.

We are getting marrie don April 21, 2012. I have been engaged since last may (2010) and had been talking about a disney wedding for a while. Last summer we decided on it and every since august (2010) we were telling people that the wedding was going to be in disney. As soon as we had the date confirmed we started telling people when we saw them or in casual converstation. Last week almost exactly a year out we sent out save the date magnets. I think its your own preference but we wanted to give everyone as much time as possible to plan.

We sent our save the dates pretty much as soon as we decided on Disney, maybe 2 years out. Instead of giving an exact date on our STDs, we told people just to save March 2011 :rotfl: It worked though, people knew that we were planning a Disney wedding for March, and knew that if they wanted to come, that was what they had to aim for.

we sent STDs out after we knew we were "penciled in" - ~ 10 months out. we sent them to only the people we were sure we were/could invite. we didn't request any return info from them (it wasn't an RSVP). i know in my work, we have to request vacation nearly a year in advance, so this is the kind of notice i would need, so thats what we did.

not to be debbie downer, but the folks to whom i believe *could* have afforded it with ample time for planning etc.. really didn't get it together even with a heads up.... wah wah waaaahhhhhhhh

i'm sure your peeps are way more organized!! :thumbsup2

I don't think there's a "too soon" when it concerns a Disney/Destination wedding. I know that when we were kids, my family needed at least two years to save for a big trip like Disney. The sooner people are aware the better, I say!

That is a great point about people having to pick their vacation time a year in advance. I better hurry up and get mine out now!

Do you guys know how far in advance a Disney vacation can be booked? We're 10 mos out now and I tried to price out a vacation for March 2012 and it wouldn't let me book past Dec 2011. Is this because the 2012 prices aren't released until January? I sure hope we can book sooner than January! Maybe I should start another thread about this...

I plan on sending out my save the dates in July-August this year for my June 2012 wedding. I don't want any excuses or I didn't tell them sooner complaints.

Probably a good idea to start another thread! Though I can tell you that I booked my trip for September 2011 in October 2010, which was more than 10 months out as well as being a different calendar year, and I didn't have any problems... so I'm not sure what your issue might be? Sorry, I know that doesn't really help but I would say that you should probably be able to book now.

2012 rates will be released in the next couple of months and then everyone can book. Figure this years rates plus 10% for planning purposes.

I did start another thread in a different forum and was told that the 2012 rates should be released in August so I can book after Aug.
