Planning a trip to US/IOA have ????

I am planning a vacation for next year to Universal/ IOA and possibly disney for myself, my hubby, our 2 children (both over 10) and my bil. We want to stay at the Nick family suites, mostly because they offer the 2 and 3 bedroom suites and are very kid oriented. We want to go during a time when front of the line wont be such a big deal, though we dont mind waiting for half an hour or so, just dont want to spend several hours in line. What is the slowest time of year? Also, are there many characters there? My younger dd really loves disney and doesnt really want to go to US uless there are several marvel characters.

There is actually a post on here somewhere with everyones' character pics.
I know I saw Spiderman, wolverine, there is a marvel superhero parade, so there must be a bunch more. I know i also saw cat in the hat, thing 1 and 2, Jimmy Neutron, shrek, and of course alot that your kids are probably too old for like barney and dora (that's who we are going for), spongebob.....
Can't help with slowest time to go though, next year will be my first time too.

Spider-Man--across from Spiderman ride and in Alterniverse store across the street from Spiderman store
Captain America---across the street from Spiderman store
Merlin--Lost Continent near Dueling dragons
Cat in the Hat--Suess Landing
Thing 1 & Thing 2--Suess landing
The Grinch--Suess landing and in the Grinch Lair at Christmas
Other assorted Suess characters--Suess Landing

You won't have problems seeing characters as they are everywhere. Marvel Super Hero Parade is almost hourly at IOA.
