Planning a Trip for June - Need Some Input

Long time lurker, might be my first time posting (can't remember if I posted back in 2004 or not!)

In 2004, we (DH, DDthen7, DDthen5, and I) did the whole Disney thing. We loved it. (I had been once when I was 5, but that was 30+ years earlier.)

When we went in 2004, we did a AAA package - POR, tickets that had park hopper and water parks included. We went to La Nouba (which we loved). POR was very pretty and quiet, but it was a hike to the food court in the morning when I just wanted to rush out to the parks.

When we got to Orlando, we had dinner with relatives and found out that one of the relatives works at a DTD hotel. They said - call before you come next time because they might be able to hook us up with deals.

Now - We're going back! Which is just super! :goodvibes

But we've got choices...

My original plan was to do a Value Resort (leaning toward Pop) - which is $109/nt for our June dates. Relative can get us $99 rate at Buena Vista Palace, which is gorgeous but not on Disney bus system.

My initial debate was between a value resort and this deal at the BVPalace. Then DH got online and decided he liked the CBR.

Then last night, I called a friend who is a DIS'er - and she told me all about renting DVC points. This process is still a little confusing to me. But I get the overall idea. Their last two trips and next trip will be at BWV.

So, renting points is now an option, too.

I think DH has done about all the planning he’s interested in doing now, so it’s up to me to make plans.

I’m leaning toward going “cheaper” for a couple reasons 1. it’s cheaper – LOL, 2. if we go to Disney for a reasonable cost, then it will feel easier to go back sooner. We went all out last time, so it’s in my mind that it’s much more expensive to take this trip than it really is.

I’d be happy to just go to Disney for 7 or 8 days. The girls – now 8 and 10 – want to also go to a water park. DH is thinking about going to Universal for a day or two. I’m ok with going to Universal, but I’m not that jazzed about it. I really don’t know much about Universal. :confused3

My DD’s are not big rollercoaster people. They’re not big thrill seekers. DD10 did ride Test Track last time and loved it. I’m sure that Universal would be fun.

So, I’m a bit confused about what we should do. If it were just me, I would just spend every waking moment in a WDW park princess: – my ideal would be to do Epcot – 2 days, MGM – most of a day, AK – 2 days, MK – 2 ½ days. So, hotel choice wouldn’t really matter.

I like the kitsch of POP – I think the girls would love it. I also love to be pampered, so higher end hotels are a good thing to me.

I like the deal of the relative’s hotel – but I am not so thrilled about the shuttle running every 30 min. We could pick up taxis when tired, but it’s just not that exciting to me to wait for the shuttle.

BWV sounds just incredible – and since I have this friend who can walk me through the renting points process – it sounds like something that wouldn’t end up being that complicated. But, it’s more expensive than the POP or BVP deal. And I was really leaning toward the more frugal end of lodging so that we could spend more on shopping if we wanted.

I’m just in a quandary. :confused3 So, if you have any thoughts or input, I’d be thrilled to have more thoughts. I asked DH last night if he felt like he needed more information before he made his opinions, and his response was pretty much that he had done all the info collecting he felt like he needed to do and it was up to me. He also said that he didn’t really care if we went to Universal or not – it was just an idea. (Someday – not this trip – I would love to do Discovery Cove!)

Thanks in advance! pixiedust:

Hey Leah!!!! Glad you could join us!!!!

I'm ready to help plan whenever you are!!! Just say the word "go"!!

Have you been looking at the DVC boards lately? It seems there are several with points up for rent right now. It wouldn't hurt to just have someone ask if there are rooms available for your times. Did you do the point calculator?

These dis people are the best....they will help you with all your questions!!

And, welcome to the DIS (even if it is 3 years later!!)

Thanks Becki!

Remind me - Can I rent DVC points for Value resorts? And - how does it work with tickets? Can you use DVC rented points for tickets?
