Planet of the Apes

Absolutely loved it and thought that, for the most part, the apes looked realistic. Could be seen on either sized screen and loved easily.

I agree. I just got home from seeing it and I LOVED it!! I thought the apes looked real and loved the story.

PS Stay for the credits.

Well... I am an animal crier, too - and I *did* cry. Just warning you. ;) When you grab your soda, grab some napkins, too. :rolleyes1

I swear, sometimes I hate being a girl. I watched Toy Story 3 again, the other night. ***booooo hoooo - sniffle sniffle - sob*** :sad2: :lmao:

I thought the movie was excellent! I took my wife, who is an animal crier. She did ok. Although I don't think she understood the premise for the movie when she agreed to go. She was expecting talking actors in ape suits like the originals. There were a few sad scenes, but no sobbing from my wife. I think she found the John Lithgow situation sadder than the animal scenes, as she was reminded of her grandfather.

I really enjoy the original series of films, I watch them over and over again (to the disappointment of my DH:lmao:). The 2001 remake with Mark Wahlberg wasn't that great, and I don't have high expectations for James Franco to be a superb lead either in a remake of a story that has such a cult following - but definitely willing to give the movie a once over seeing how the effects are supposed to be outstanding and people in this treads opinions are more than favourable.

Not a remake. More a prequel.

gotta see it, but the old ones ending of the statue of liberty can never be equaled

That ending has to be in the top ten of movie endings. :thumbsup2

I think I'll wait for this movie to come out on DVD or even HBO, no real hurry to see it.

??? Is this a remake or retelling of The Conquest of the Planet of The Apes?

I love the original series and that is the one where Cesar leads the revolt that leads the apes to taking over the humans.

I have the impression from the commercials that this is a remake or retelling of that story.....

I just looked up the plot summary of Conquest because I didn't remember that one. It's not the same story. If you are a fan of the originals, I think you should give it a shot. I think you'll really like it :thumbsup2

its sad, dont know if I want to see it then

It's really not that bad! Trust me. I am a crier!!

No, it wasn't awful. But **that one part** kept upsetting me. No need to 'splain. ;)

And can someone tell me what I missed in the credits? I left. PM me if it's a spoiler ???

It's more of a prequel to the original film - with much better special effects! There are a ton of references to the original film (Caesar is even holding a little Statue of Liberty model in one shot  ), but this movie is about how the apes became so intelligent and the things that ultimately led to the downfall of humans.

Caesar has to be one of the best CG/motion-capture characters I've ever seen. Andy Serkis is such an amazing talent. :thumbsup2

Great movie! Worth seeing, DH was super excited and I think they did a good job with the overall movie. Gets you routing for the monkeys!

Thanks to the posters who PM'd me with the credit scene, I missed. Gotcha! :thumbsup2

And, can I tell you - if I think about that ~one part~, I get sad?? I can't even think about it, makes me feel yucky!!! I have to keep telling myself - it was a movie with animated monkeys, it was a movie with animated monkeys, it was a movie with animated monkeys, it was a movie with animated monkeys, it was a movie with animated monkeys, ,......

Just saw it yesterday. It was pretty good, but not amazing. I don't know that I'd sit through it again.

CR, I can't figure out what part you are talking about. PM me with the scene please! I did go to the bathroom at one point and DH would never tell me if something was disturbing or I'd ruin the rest of the movie for him!

I was dragged to see it. Let me preface this by saying I am totally against remakes and I was such a big fan of the originals (watched them soooo many times as a teenager). I went into the theater expecting to hate it.

I don't hate it, but only because the acting was well-done. It drew me in and engaged me in the story, making me forget this was a remake. Love John Lithgow, Andy Serkis is amazing, liked seeing Draco Malfoy being his usual bad-guy self and even "Goblin Jr" James Franco put in a good performance.

The only thing that really drew me out of the story was the references to the original. They were so heavy-handed with them. They were really jarring and broke the flow of the story.
