We are planning a trip in Sept. We have been making reservations for dinning and are doing alot of character meals for my 6 yr old daughter. I would like to do a dinner my 2 sons ( 11 and 8 ) would like. I was thinking about Planet Hollywood any suggestions or other ideas? Thanks Chris:rockband: party:

I know that it does not get great reviews here but we went to PH in Oct at the request of DD18 and we had a wonderful meal. We were on the free DDP so we for appys we had the little tacos (really good) and the spinach dip. For our entree I had chicken fajitas (I love these) and my DD had the California lasagna. Of our 10 nights, this dessert was our favorite - cheesecake with strawberries. Yum!

I haven't eaten at the PH at WDW, but we didn't much care for the one in Atlanta.

We really like Rainforest Cafe. Most kids (all ages) like the atmosphere. There are two locations -- DTD and AK. Some people have a preference, but we found both locations to be just fine. It's usually crowded with a rather long wait, so it's helpful if you go at an "off" time. Both locations serve lunch & dinner. And the AK location also serves breakfast, which we did very late one time ( as a brunch).

The AK Rainforest has a direct entrance into the park.

I have posted about my experience at Planet Hollywood a few times on here. Since you're asking specifically about the place, I'll post it again.

We also took our boys (11 and 8 at the time) in December. The first thing we noticed was how close together the tables were. The hostess pointed at our table and we immediately thought, "You've got to be kidding!" The other table around it were filled and you literally couldn't even pull the chairs out an inch from the table. The hostess just stood there and didn't offer any assistance in moving things around so we had to try to move the table and chairs until we could sit down.

The waiter immediately asked if we were on the DDP and we said yes. He asked to see our card and determined that we were entitled to 3 adult meals and one child meal. We ordered 2 appetizers to share. The waiter insisted that we order 3 since we were entitled to them. We explained that the kids were picky and didn't want any. He insisted again that we order them (presumably to pad the bill and, thereby, his tip). I asked if the kids could get chips and salsa. He said no. I asked if they could get the spinach dip that comes with chips and just substitute salsa for the dip and he said no. So I said then we'll stick with the two appetizers. He was obviously ticked off.

When he brought the appetizers, he sort of tossed them on the table and the cup of salsa that came with the potato skins fell between my son and me and we both ended up with salsa on our pants. The guy neither apologized nor picked it up.

When we ordered our entrees, I asked if my oldest son could just have 2 pieces of plain, white bread and a side of fries (my son has a form of autism, is very picky and I was going to make him a peanut butter sandwich with peanut butter I brought with us). The waiter said they didn't have any white bread. I asked about the bread they use for the club sandwiches. The guy said, no, it's already cut into little triangles. Really? I must look really stupid. I was trying to be very nice the whole time we were dealing with this guy. We finally settled for a plain hamburger bun to put the peanut butter on. I told him to charge us for an adult meal for the bun and fries. We were fine with that and, in fact, expected it. He wasn't happy that we didn't order a full meal.

So, that was just one waiter. If the food was good, I wouldn't give the place such a bad review just based on the service. But, the food was horrible. I got a cobb salad that was mostly inedible. The turkey was slimy, it had too much dressing and it had cubes of dry cheese. I hardly ate any of it, it was so bad. My husband had ribs and said they were OK, nothing special.

The place was also very, very loud. We expected it to be loud and we're usually OK with that. But this was just oppressively loud. You could hardly talk to anyone at your table so mostly we just sat in silence.

When we left, my 11 year old summed it up perfectly. He said, "Mommy, when we were in there it was like we weren't even in Disneyworld anymore."

I am usually very easy going and can tolerate a lot of inconveniences. But the combination of the rude waiter, the noise, uncomfortable table and awful food just about sent me over the edge. While I was sitting there, I almost felt like I was fighting tears and that's just not like me at all!

So, I would have to give the place a huge thumbs-down!!! My sister and I went to the Planet Hollywood at Cesar's in Las Vegas a couple of months earlier. The food was pretty good (not spectacular but fine). The atmosphere was fun and I thought my family would like the one in DTD.

Hope you have a great trip, wherever you decide to eat!:)

We went there last August. It was my kids (8 and 11) favorite meal of the trip.
In fact, when I was making ADRs for this next trip, and I asked them what they wanted to do again, that was the one place they both requested!!
(that is over CRT, CP, SciFi, 50PT, LeCel, WCC, Biergarten, H&V)

There was 8 of us, and we all enjoyed it.

Our waiter wasn't really great once we told him we were on DDP. Which is funny, he was the only server out of our whole trip that made us feel bad for being on the Dining plan!

My sons burger was pink, sent it back and got a new one, no problem.
DD had ribs, it was a huge order, and very yummy.
Kids loved the atmosphere.

The Ghiradelli brownie was the best dessert out of our whole trip!!

I will try to bump up my old thread with my kids rating the restaurants we ate at, since they were the same age as your kids.

This was a big surprise on my last trip. We had a great meal with great service. I was surprised how good it was. My wife and I were totally impressed.

On a side note as good as Planet Hollywood was that is how bad Sci Fi for dinner was on our last trip also. We had a great lunch there but don't go for dinner. Horrible.

Food is OK.
Service is almost unacceptably bad.
Atmosphere is good.

I'd go to Rainforest Cafe anyday of the week over PH.

PH is a long wait unless you go early, it is loud and you are packed in like sardines. I would save it for your kids teenage years unless you think they would really, really appreciate it now.

We have enjoyed Rainforest both DTD and AK.

Our family of five (DS 14, twin DD 11) went last September during free dining. We all really liked our food selections. :thumbsup2 I do agree that the tables are too close together and the service is not the best, but my kids loved the atmosphere. We are going again this September and the kids got to pick two of our ADRs. They picked Planet Hollywood and 50's Primetime. I guess if you decide to go be prepared for the longer meal times and less than great service as possibilities so you won't be overly disappointed if you experience this.

Happy planning! :goodvibes

the problem with PH is that it focuses more on theming and decor then food... if you like loud music and busy decor with your meal, go for it. Someone is bound to like it (and apparently many people do).

The food there is just like a Fridays or Chilis and the place is nicely themed with alot of memorabilia. It is very loud in there tho.

Another place that is very similar is the Rainforest Cafe. Same type of food but with a completely different theme.
