My dear dear husband :lovestruc wants to go to Planet Hollywood, but after looking at the menu it doesn't really seem worth it. It seems like regular plain old food that we could get at Applebees. He said its all about the experience. I agree with him, but I'm still just not sure. It will be me, DH and our 2 boys who will be 2 & 4 when we go. Thoughts? :confused3

If nothing else, your WDTC package will include a coupon for PH. You may want to use that instead for a lunch or bar/beverage instead of pp meal entitlements.

I wouldn't waste a DDP credit there, I have eaten there and while the food was OK (yes deff like your local Applebee's) The atmosphere is awsome!!! The coupon you get with your Disney Package includes a $15 coupon for Planet Hollywood Downtown Disney. IMO you should pay OOP and use the coupon instead of wasting your (more expensive) DDP credit.

In addition, if he wants PH, ask him about House of Blues.
restaurant.com usually has $25 certificates. (With a $35 purchase.)
By signing up with restaurant.com you can probably buy one for $2 - $3, once you start receiving e-mails from them with promo codes.
We have used a few there, even as recent as yesterday.
HoB is not as noisy or chaotic.
The certificate is not good for the Sunday Gospel Brunch. And only one can be used one per table, once a month.

You are right the food is just like applebees. The experience is OK. My suggestion eat somewhere else and go to PH for a drink at the bar you won't miss a thing even if you don't drink alcohol get a soda or water you will get his experience but it isn't all that great!

Have a great trip

We actually enjoy PH! We go with our $15 coupon we always get with our package. We share a bunch of appetizers and get fun drinks. With the $15, it winds up being an inexpensive meal and everyone leaves happy. In fact, our last night we let dd13 decide where she wanted to go for our "last meal" and PH it was!

Us too...we ate there on one of our trips and honestly the food was quite good! The atmosphere was a great bonus. I was worried because of all the bad reviews it gets here on the Dis. We did use dining credits to pay for our meal and felt it was very worth using the credits on.

You will always get a mixed review as everyone has different tastes.
We tried PH on our last trip and really didn't enjoy it. My DD3 didn't seem all that interested in the atmosphere and we probably would not go back using our DDP credits.
However, if you really want to try it, why not use your $15 coupon and go for dessert or a plate of nachos?

I have ressies for 1/25 for dinner on DxDP. What did you have on your trip?

I had the crab cakes with mashed potatoes and veggies. It was so good! Lots of crab meat in the cakes.

My husband had the rack of ribs with fries. He's a rib guy and said these were some of the best he's had (in a restaurant, they're always best at home on the grill ;) )

And the kids had your basic kids foods...pizza and chicken strips/fries, no complaints from them either.

I definitely wouldnt use a dining credit on PH.. However, I would use the $15 coupon.. Go for a couple of drinks and an app.. for the experience and then head to earl of sandwich and get something else..

As far as I know, there is not a minimum purchase requirement with the $15 coupon.
Order a few drinks and appy at the bar, use the coupon, and say you experienced it.
We have eaten there a few times. Not a favorite place. But not bad either. I would agree it is along the lines of Applebee's.

I think you're both right - it is food you could get at Applebees but it is all about the experience. It isn't my favorite place and it'll never make my must do list, but we always go when we've got someone who has never been to a PH with us because it is really neat to see once. The food is pretty good, a step up from Applebees but with the same type of menu. The restaurant is extremely loud and chaotic, but the memorabilia collection is quite cool especially for movie buffs.

One thing you might want to think about it your youngest - how does he do with noise? Have you ever been out to a noisy restaurant at home? Our 2yo is normally quite good in restaurants but it is almost like she takes her cues from the atmosphere; in a quiet restaurant she sits quietly, colors, and tries to converse with us but in very noisy, stimulating venues she gets restless, fidgety, and fussy.

If you do decide to go, I wouldn't use a basic DDP credit there. I think the appetizers were the best part of our meals at PH. The spicy shrimp were very good, nice sized with just the right 'kick' to the seasoning, and the appetizer sampler was enough for a meal in itself. I'd suggest using the voucher from your package to share a couple appetizers and a dessert around the table.

I have to say, I really don't enjoy any of our local Applebee's (only been to 5 in the area, but they were all about the same. We go once a month as a "last resort" because it stays open so late) ... but I LOVED my meal at PH. I will say I did NOT like the atmosphere (too loud after a very loooong day in the parks on pregnant feet,) so that did not play a part in it. It was just good food...or maybe it just seemed that way after being subjected to Disney CS :rotfl:

We had the bruchetta (sp?) as an app and I ordered the spaghetti.
