I'm going to be joining tomorrow. Had a couple questions.

They have a $10 a month and a $20 a month membership. I know with the $20 one, you get more perks.

Just wondering if I start out with the $10 membership, can I switch over to the $20 membership later on? Or should I just start out with the $20 membership?

And is really like the commercials say, no "gymtimidation". It's one reason I don't go to the gym. I'm very overweight and just hate to stand on a treadmill next to some little gym bunny, if you know what I mean.

Yes you can upgrade with no additional fees, just the 30 a month. You get access to tanning, hydro beds & the Red booth(which allegdedly makes your skin tighter I think).

I have found of all the gyms I have used over the years that this one has more people of all sizes & ages. I even saw a guy bounced for carrying a gallon jug of water, making those muscle guy noises & continuously dropping weights with a bang.

You do get some muscle heads but I am perfectly comfortable there with 80lbs to lose.

It's the only gym within 20 miles, so it's where I go as well. I've always been perfectly happy with the $10 membership; I don't tan and I don't need the gym reciprocity.

As for the people there, I've seen teenagers to octogenarians, people running ten miles and people walking one. All shapes and sizes. I think you'll like it.

I have been going to PF for 3 years. I have the cheaper membership. In fact, I just switched to $99 per year which makes it even cheaper.

I don't tan so don't need the upgrade. It does allow you to go to other locations and also bring guests.

Right now my location has a deal where if you upgrade to the Black card, you are entered into a raffle for a mountain bike.

I have the $19.99/month Black Card. I usually bring my husband as my "guest", but sometimes a friend. I don't use the tanning beds or anything.

Everyone at my PF is minding their own business and not paying attention to anyone else. I've never had a problem there.

I've been going to Planet Fitness for 2 and a half years since shortly after I graduated college. It's not the only gym in my area but I also loved the "no gymtimidation" thing and still do. I was overweight when I joined and have lost close to 80 pounds. I have the $10 membership and it's great. The gym is close to both my house and work and I still live at home, so it's nice and affordable.

Everyone there pretty much minds their own business but I definitely see a lot of the same people every time I work out and we usually say hello to each other. And I run into a lot of people I know, too.

I haven't needed to upgrade to the black card yet, but I finally have enough work experience that I can start looking for jobs in a more metro area and if I find something in Boston/Providence I will absolutely switch to the black card, but keep my current gym as my home gym, most likely. My gym is clean and well-kept and the staff is very friendly.

My only problem is the parking - it's located in an old mill building with some retail shops, a dance studio and several health care training programs, and the students in these health programs are supposed to park in the lot behind the building, but they never do, so I often have trouble finding a spot in the lot and have to park in the Dollar Tree parking lot.

If you have the $10 a month membership there is no charge to cancel it. If you have the Black card ($20) there is a year contract and a cancelation fee, and the annual fee is higher. I was going to switch to the black card but decided to wait until I saw how often I really go first.
I love my gym, no issues with muscle heads or gym bunnies. They even have wardrobe rules, no skimpy gym clothes.

I don't go to Planet Fitness, but a similar chain.

I found the time of day you go also determines who is there working out. I like to go in the morning with the "older crowd". Before 9am and after 5pm, I find there are more younger people there...The "gym bunnies" and "muscle heads" if you will.;)

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I'd be going between 9:30-10:00 between my bus runs. Just hoping it wouldn't be too crowded.

I've been a PF member for 3 months now. I have the black card ($20/mo) membership and it is worth every penny. Being able to get a hydromassage and chair massage after every workout is a real treat. On the rare occasion that I do not get a massage, I am very sore the next day.

That's about the time I go, and it's usually not busy. I also avoid between 5 and 7, lots of people go before going home from work. At around 7:30 it starts to die down a bit.
The most crowded I've seen it, is right after New Years. But around Mid Feb it starts to taper off again. My gym manager said in the summer he has about 10 regulars but it's pretty dead all summer.

OK. So you guys have my intrigued. DH and I both want to lose weight. But we are having a problem finding something that both of us want to do. So I was thinking maybe a gym would be a good idea.

What is the unlimited fitness training?

And if we decide to get the Black membership for one of us and just take the other as a 'guest', does the guest get access to everything too? Or just the member?

Not sure what the guest has access too, maybe just the gym equipment.

The unlimited fitness training are classes that work on either arms, legs, abs, etc. Or they can personalize a circuit training program for you.

If you click here, then up in the upper right hand corner, there is a link to the training.
