With all the issues with planes these days does anyone have any plane worries? I was thinking of flying but the older kids are scared to due to all the plane issues.

Yeah - kinda - which is weird because I used to fly all the time with my job for decades. I was thinking of flying out in April to visit family in Connecticut - but I gotta admit- I’m kinda nervous about it now.

Yes, but they aren't necessarily new. I used to fly every week for work for years without an issue, even right after 9/11. Then I had kids and it flipped a switch in my brain. Since then (it's been 19 years), I hate flying .I have to take xanax to get on a plane. The recent news certainly doesn't help.

Out of all the recent accidents, he only one that truly concerns me is the collision over the Potomac.
I'm curious, why?

At this point, I'm thinking "human error" for that one, which will be with us forever.

Toronto, which COULD be a mechanical failure concerns me more. A part can give out before it's "due".

That being said, I'm flying for work on Sunday and won't hesitate a second to get on either plane.

Not worried at all. I've flown hundreds of times for work and vacations (overseas and domestic) and never given it a thought. I think there's a greater chance of being killed in a car accident than flying.

This.... The interstates are far more dangerous than the skies. There have been a few accidents recently that caused very unfortunate loss of life - no denying that. But during that same time frame, millions of passengers and crews have safely flown all over the world.

Maybe a little, but at the end of the day my love of traveling and flying is going to win out. Maybe I'll be extra vigilant about keeping my seatbelt tight.

I was quite literally in the car on the way to YYZ to board a Delta CRJ-900 and fly home when the crash occurred. I had zero worries getting on my rescheduled flight yesterday. As others have pointed out you are far more likely to have incidents on the road going to your flight than in the sky. I love flying and have done it many many times for leisure and work. I trust in our aviation professionals regardless of what's going on. Watching FlightAware etc seeing just how many planes are in the air at any given time and how many flights are totally uneventful helps to keep these things in perspective.

I keep my seatbelt fastened at all times during flights as force of habit anyway. The only thing I'll be doing differently is making sure I keep my card case on my physical person instead of my personal item bag so I have access to ID/cards in case of an evacuation.

No, there have been less aviation accidents this year as compared to this same timeframe last year. And no one was worried then.
Where can I find this kind of statistic?

Nope, not worried at all. I know pilots. Men who have been in avionics for 20+ years. Most of these things we are hearing about happen all of the time and they are not new. The plane that rolled and the helicopter incident are the exceptions.

Everything in the news is politics and distractions, regardless of who is in office. The difference now is they are making a big deal out of every incident. Kind of like every train derailment in 2023/2024. Some were legit BS and people needed to be held accountable...the majority were not unusual.

I don’t like flying. Nothing new. Used to fly a good amount for work, so would frequent the lounges before boarding. Have been utilizing Valium for the last few years.

So many concerns, starting with unintentional external threats (such as birds and confluence of factors leading to significant turbulence). Then there are intentional external threats (see, Azerbaijan Airlines flight 8243), to intentional internal threats (see, Germanwings flight 9525). Plus I’ve always been cognizant of mechanical failure and user error.

Newer-to-me concerns include: counterfeit parts being utilized in construction and repair; information on DEI programs at manufacturers, which intentionally results in less-than-best-qualified having a significant hand in development and construction; staffing and training issues with manufacturers, and further staffing and training issues with air traffic control.

Even more recent concerns include potential, significant downsizing of federal government and impact that may have, as on FAA with air traffic control and inspectors, as well as TSA air marshals.

Sure, I’ve read the generic statistics on airplanes being less dangerous than automobiles. On one hand, I know that auto accidents happen, and that usually they include a negligent and a non negligent driver.

I consider myself a more careful, more alert driver. Plus there is at least the illusion of control, compared with utter helplessness as an airplane passenger.

Is my fear of air travel based in at least a kernel of fact? Yes. Is my fear fully merited? I ‘unno.

Fox news article about the first month of presidency is a little misleading. 18 people were killed in the first month of presidency 4 years ago. About 90 people so far this year.

Can't brag you fired so many people in the FAA, claim the skies have never been safer, then blame someone else when a crash happens on your watch. Maybe just stop talking.

That being said, I never had an issue with flying, but the new presidents and presidents people do have me concerned that they are capable of gettting things under control and making correct decisions, not retalitory ones that sound good on the news and social media.
