Plane crashes into building in Austin

Chief Acevedo spoke to the media. He seemed a bit irritated with them. He did confirm that the plane was NOT stolen. Fox news said this was from a few hours ago.

OP, have you heard from your friend?

I live a few miles from the Echelon building in Austin & actually worked (for two years) a few feet from it (in the building next door). I read this thread & wanted to offer a few facts & opinions:

- The Echelon building is one of four 5-7 story office buildings...all in a line along a busy highway (US 183) near Mopac (another highway) & the Arboretum (a shopping / business center).
- These buildings house all sorts of companies (dozens of office suites), lots of computer related companies & small offices of FBI, IRS & other companies....but these ARE NOT govt. buildings.
- The "IRS building" (big building where all the returns go to) is 15 miles south. But it's my understanding that the IRS "office of last resort" where real problem returns are handled....had an office in the Echelon building & was the "target" of the dude who snapped.
- The Georgetown (TX) airport would have been less than a 30 minute drive...so the timeline discussed would be possible.
- Based on the "manifesto"....he was raised in PA, lived many years in California & moved (like tens of thousands of others) to Austin just a few years ago.

The "manisfesto" made for interesting reading. Stack appeared (to me) to be very sharp, offered many opinions that i pretty much agree with. He was at the end of his rope (with his failing business & with the IRS) & obviously snapped.

I don't condone flying planes into buildings or burning down houses.... but just because Stack was a nut job who snapped, doesn't make many of his opinions any less accurate....I find his story compelling given our economy & given how our govt. has evolved (& devolved) the past 30 years.

I have no info on his wife or kid & if they were in danger. If they were, it would definitely add a layer nuttiness (insanity) to Mr. Stack's actions. A sad day....but thankfully no one but Stack was killed.

They are the opinions of a psycho killer. That puts everything that he stood for in a shady light.

He stated in his blog that years ago he went through a divorce. It was the only mention in 7 pages that I saw referencing a wife. I'm wondering what the deal is with the wife and step-daughter. Why light the house on fire with them in it. He articulated his grievances in those 7 pages but the wife and step-daughter didn't get a mention.

I read in an article that they were NOT in the house, but did come up to see it burning and said "That's our house, that's our house!"

I tend to believe the reports they were in the house are just sensationalism.

ETA: I tried to find the article after posting this, but I can't remember where I read it, lol.

I'm hearing the same thing. Stack burned down the house because the IRS was going to seize it (along with the plane).

I'm also hearing that his wife & step daughter spent the night elsewhere, (after a "domestic dispute") & weren't in danger.

The Talking Heads references in this thread "psyco killer" & "burning down the house" are pretty interesting. :hippie:
