Plan of Attack

Hello,

I've decided to go to Universal Studios July 7th through the 10th. I know it will be crowded and hot. I'm staying at the Hard Rock. I will be traveling alone. I've never been there before and I need to start making my plan of attack to do everything I can.

Can somebody give me a good park plan?

Relax, Beagle. You don't need a plan of attack. Really. If you have looked at the website or picked up a guidebook for UO, you probably have an idea of what you want to see. Everything really, truly is within walking distance of your hotel. Your stay at HRH will get you front of the line access on almost all of the rides. This combination makes it feasible for you to plan to do just one ride or the whole park on any given visit to the parks. Just make sure you have tickets that allow you unlimited access to both parks during your stay. This gives you the luxury to sleep late if you like to do that on vacation. If you prefer to get up and go early, you can hit the parks early and get on front row (you do not get front row with FOTL) of the roller coasters then return to the hotel when you get hot. The HRH has a great pool and I recommend the Sweet Home Alabama if you like a cocktail while on vacation.

We have been to HRH several times, including last July. We had no problems with heat or crowds because we decided to just take it easy and do the parks in small bites. We typically do the water rides at IOA at one time then go back to the hotel, get changed relax--then maybe go back to the parks, maybe not.

They usually show a movie at the HRH pool on Friday nites, so you may want to check out what the movie will be and decide whether or not you want to go to that. When we were there they had a beach party on the Saturday nite by the pool and that was fun as well.

I would take time to check out the other hotels if you are into that sort of thing. There should be nightly fireworks during your stay as well.

You will get through the ride lines in no time with the combination of FOTL and don't hesitate to use the single rider line. Many times during spring break that was the fastest way to go. Have a great time.

I'm going the 6th thru the 8th, staying at the RPR.

Actually, there is an attack plan, even if you have FOTL.

The park will open at 08:45am, they won't officially announce this, but they just open early. Be at the gate early for whatever park you visit.

Look at the Thrill Ride tour of IOA, and then the regular tour of USF.

The main thing is, you want to go into the park early so you can get a front seat ride on Hulk, front seat rides on Deuling Dragons, and then try for a ride on Pteranodon Flyers before the kid rule goes into effect. FOTL will get you on Hulk and Deuling Dragons with no wait, but if you want the front, you have to wait for it. If the front doesn't open, I just ride in row 2 and enjoy the ride.

At USF, it's fun to walk thru an empty Mummy queue and take it all in.

Now, I do have a little trick since you are going alone. For the coasters, wait in row 2, and watch the people ahead of you in row 1. If there is an empty seat, say excuse me, move thru the crowd, and take the empty front seat. This works all the time for me and I end up in the front with no wait.

Go back to your hotel in the afternoon for a nap, change cloths, have a few drinks, and come back to the parks when the sun is going down. They'll stay open until 10pm and then have fireworks. Go to IOA and watch the fireworks, a good spot is behind Mythos.

Are there certain days of the week during the summer that are less crowded than others?

I have heard Wed. and Thurs. are the slowest days at IOA

(just don't tell anyone else-ok? )
