Hi everyone! My husband, 6yo son and I are nearing our dream vacation of 9 days in Aulani followed by 5 days at DLR. We are taking a red-eye flight from HNL to LAX arriving at 530am on January 26. We'll be heading straight to GCV but I'm not expecting our room to be ready until late afternoon. I should be ok as I'm a shift worker and used to crazy schedules and functioning on no sleep, but I'm wondering if anyone might have ideas for my 6yo son? We're planning on taking in the parks but fully expect to crash early on as we'll be lucky if we get a few hours of sleep on the plane. Does anyone have ideas of quiet-ish, low-impact activities or quiet areas where we might pass time if the jet-lag gets the better of us before we can get to our room? Thanks in advance!

We are going to be in the same boat in April. My plan is to hang out in DTD. They have the imax theater, we may go watch a movie. We will probably have lunch at rainforest cafe, then maybe a drink at that place right in the middle of DTD (forgot name). I think they girls will be happy just taking in all the sites In that area. Hopefully by then our room is ready and we can check in, then go soak in the hot tub. :)

The GCH has an amazing lobby with comfy chairs and even kids cartoons with little itty bitty chairs. You can get something from the coffee area and put your feet up. I have seen lots of people snoozing in there. Just drop your bags at bell service. If you have your swimsuits handy you could take a swim and a hot tub and relax by the pool on a lounge chair. They are very comfy.

We did the same thing, flew from Honolulu (home for us) to LAX red eye. I didn't want to do DLR that first day because I thought the kids would crash, it's only a 5 hr flight after all! So not wanting to waste a day, we visited Knotts. Silly me, the kids were so excited, they went all day! We had a 2 yr old and a 5 yr old, and my bff had a 3 yr old and 1 yr old.

We're planning the same flight this time, but will do DTD that first day. Get the souvenirs out of the way, and eating as Rainforest Cafe since DD really wants to go there. We'll turn in early and hit DL strong the next day!

I'd hang out around the hotel to help him relax. even if he doesn't actually sleep, some quiet, rest time should be good.

I agree with Susie63, the lobby at the Grand is great for relaxing! If all the comfy chairs are filled, go upstairs to the 3rd floor, over the check in desk, and there is a balcony area that over looks the lobby with more comfy chairs and a piano. It's always nice and quiet up there. :)
