Having never been to disney world before I need some advice from someone who is a disney veteran on how to maximise my time at disney. I am staying in the wilderness resort for 7 days from the 11 of july. Where should i head first, what attracions should i aim for at what times and are there any tips that will help me.
Thanks in advance.

First - WELCOME TO THE DIS!!!

I might suggest using the busiest park days guide for start. It has never failed me.

"During regular attendance periods, our parks tend to be the busiest on
the following days:
Magic Kingdom: Monday, Thursday, and Saturday
Epcot: Tuesday and Friday
Disney-MGM Studios: Sunday and Wednesday
Disney's Animal Kingdom: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday"

STAY AWAY from Magic Kingdom on SATURDAY! :teeth:

You also want to take into consideration EMH and decided if you want to take advantage of that. My personal opinion is to avoide the morning EMH and do the evening ones. In the evenings, we feel like we have the park to ourselves.

My third suggestion to you is...you will be there for 7 days. Don't try to push yourself too much. You will have time to do plenty. Get your rest and enjoy your vacation.! :wizard:

The Unofficial Guide to Disney World is absolutely essential! I buy an updated copy each time. It has great advice on specific attractions, line strategies, where to stand for the fireworks, etc.

Also, a point the author drives home (and with which I heartily agree) is the need for a break in the middle of the day. My general strategy is to be at a park at or near opening, ride the rides while the lines are short, stay until lunch time, then head back to the hotel/resort for lunch and a couple hours' break, both to rest and to avoid the longest lines of the day (afternoons are usually most crowded). Then we go back in the evening, often to a different park.

This December I'm doing a 7-day trip for the first time; I've always done 4 days before. Being there for a full 7 days I'm planning to do some things I'd skip if I didn't have so much time: Downtown Disney, visit the town of Celebration, maybe even go for a leisurely lunch at one of the deluxe resorts, or go see Cirque du Soleil. Seven days is plenty of time, I can hardly wait!

agreed, unofficial is amazing. I somewhat disagree with the 'Best Park' 'Worst Park' for each day part because it is based solely on EMH and some people enjoy staying up very, very late and don't mind waiting in the lines. They should mention that the EMH have everything to do with how they decided the best/worst park fo the day.
