We've been very lucky eating at WDW with our DS with food allergies to nuts/treenuts. We're going again with DxDDP soon and want to know if there are any restraunts to AVOID with our son due to poor experiences. Here's a few we're considering:

Cinderellas palace (dinner)
plaza restraunt
50's prime time
brown derby
california grill
poly luau
mickeys hoop de doo dinner show
coral reef
teppan edo
chefs de france
tutto italiano
rose and crown
le cellier
yak and yeti ***** I was a bit concerned with this one...any experiences?
flying fish
artist point

For those doing research I have eaten at the following restraunts with FABULOUS experiences with treenut/peanut allergy concerns:

Ohana
Liberty Tree Tavern
Tony's town center
chip and dales garden grill
captain jacks (bad food though)
sci fi (great service here)
hollywood and vine (not great food but awesome chef)
crystal palace
chef mickeys (again, not great food but awesome chef)
akershus (so-so experience)
1900 park fair (again, not great food but awesome chef...I think we just don't like buffets!)

I have heard of people having problems with yak and yeti.

I have had very good experience with teppan edo I let the cast members know of my allergy as soon as I got there. The head chef explained what was ok to eat and what he could do to make up for things that I could not eat. He did ask if he could make my meal in the kitchen so it had no chance of being contaminated at the table.

I have PN and TN allergies and have eaten at Yak & Yeti twice with no problems at all. Actually it is a must do for us and on our trip next month we have two ADR's for Yak & Yeti again it was so good last time.

I recently read some of the specifications to the chefs at Food & Wine Festival. They have to provide their ingedient lists to Disney and they are prohibited from using either MSG or Peanut Oil oin cooking. And they are told they should have vegetarian and gluten-free items available.

Good to hear! Could you tell me what you ate or if you remember, what you were'nt allowed to eat? Did the chef come talk with you? Did he have to make special accomodations or was most of the food peanut/tree nut free in the first place? I'd love my son to be able to eat some of the food here (the noodles, rice, etc. He's never eaten chinese food out before). :)

I had the chicken low mein both times as it was so good. I have a feeling that I had the the chicken fried rice too but am not 100% sure on that, it was a while ago that we went. I did note the allergies in our ADR as I always do. They obviously did not use peanut oil or we would have left straight away. From memory there wasn't really anything on the menu with nuts in it except salads, so there isn't a great risk from them cooking something else in the pan with peanuts to leave traces, there definately wasn't anything with peanuts on the menu as I would remember that. I usually remember somewhere where there are peanuts.

I felt very comfortable at Yak & Yeti and I am not comfortable everywhere. I won't eat at Ohana's for dinner for examply. I do have an airbourne allergy to peanuts, so it just makes me too nervous having all of that peanut sauce everywhere, but that's just my personal anxiety that stops me eating there.

Last year, we went to Chefs de France and I would NOT do that again. My PA kids could barely eat anything. No bread. Plain vanilla ice cream for dessert and buttered pasta for dinner. I don't think they handle the allergy well. I knew ahead of time that there might be a problem with Epcot World Showcase restaurants but was hoping for the best. I'm glad we did it to meet Chef Remy and experience it. But, not again.
We did have a good experience with Coral Reef and Hoop Dee Doo. I'll be trying some of those other restaurants on your list in 2 weeks and I'll let you know how that goes!!

this is not on your list, but I would not recommend Tusker House for anyone with a peanut allergy.

Many of the foods contained peanuts (I guess peanuts are very common in African cooking). There was also a large open (and very messy) tub of peanut butter on the children’s part of the buffet.

For people without allergies, it’s very tasty food though.

Last year, on a Mom and sons trip to WDW, we ate at Yak & Yeti. My DS 15 has a severe peanut allergy and he had no problems there at all.

A few years back, we liked the service at Boma's, the chef even created a special dessert for my son.

As long as you let the server know the allergy, the chef will usually stop by the table to go over food options. We have never had a problem. :thumbsup2

We were advised by Special Diets to avoid Chefs de France, Yak & Yeti, and the EPCOT Chinese TS and CS restaurants with our pn/tn allergic kids. I wonder why Yak & Yeti was on the list since it sounds like it's not a problem. We avoided it, because of the warning from special diets.

The manager, chef and waitress were awesome at Teppan Edo. They don't use peanuts or tree nuts in cooking, but there is a cross-contamination problem with the desserts. We've dined at Coral Reef 4x. They do a great job, too. My daughter is able to get The Wave dessert. She loves it and it's a nice change from the fruit cup and plain vanilla ice cream most places offer. We ate at Brown Derby in June. Again, another wonderful meal. Waiter and chef were attentive to our concerns. The kids got mango gelato with a berry compote the chef makes on site. We tried Rose & Crown 4 years ago. The chef at that time seemed really bothered about having to discuss allergies. The food and service weren't good. The beer was the only thing that saved it from being a complete disaster.

I have to second the Tusker House - and really any place that specializes in African food. We did a Grand Gatherings at Yak and Yeti and ate at Boma on the same trip a few months ago. While the chefs at both restaurants were very helpful and there was plenty for my child with PN and TN allergies to eat, I had no idea that peanuts would be in SO many foods there. It's not just in the desserts like in most places - it is in a lot of salads, side dishes and breads, plus some of the entrees. Even though we've eaten at most everywhere at Disney with no issues, I won't go back to the African-themed restaurants again.

I believe at Hoop de Doo they have the same cornbread that is available at Mickey's Backyard BBQ and at the campground restaurant. They bake it there rather than at the "central bakery" (whatever they call it), so the cornbread is even safe for PN allergies and very delicious!

From what I understand, peanuts are very common in African and Asian cooking, so your experience at Boma and Yak & Yeti are not surprising.

I have a peanut oil allergy and had no problems at Yak and Yeti, Boma, or Teppen Edo. I often have trouble in some places as I am allergic to the oil, not the nut and many places use the oil to cook with. The 3 places I listed were great about checking the ingredients carefully...right down to the oils.

Glad to hear about Coral Reef, I haven't eaten there since before I had my son who has PA and TNA. Can I ask you, what is the wave? What did she eat for dinner? We are looking to go in Nov. and I am always scared when we try a new restaurant.

As far as Rose and Crown we always eat there evry trip and the Chef and waiter are GREAT. There was never a problem or attitude, I am so sorry you had a bad experience.
The food is OK with me but my DH loves it there and my PA son never had a problem, they are even great with my Mom's Wheat allergy.

I wouldn't recommend Wolf Gang's Puck. They use peanut oil in just about everything and peanuts in a lot of their dishes. They were great but, I wouldn't do it again. My son was real young so I pulled the seat away from the table and ordered him spaghetti and butter to be safe. They kept all peanut dishes away from our table. Just to nerve wreaking for me.

My DD12 had the steak for dinner. The chef didn't have to make any changes for it to be safe. The Wave is a flourless chocolate cake with a white chocolate cream filling. It's yummy. :goodvibes My DS8 also has pn/tn allergies, but orders off the kids menu. The only things he's had to avoid are the ice cream sundae and the granola in the yogurt parfait. Once he wanted the yogurt, so the chef made him a big bowl of strawberry yogurt with fresh mixed berries.

Thank You, my son is 8 yrs old too with PA/TNA. The wave sounds delicious. Thank you.

I have recently been able to access the "public" information for participants in the Internation Food and Wine Festival. This includes the following in the guidelines:
Prohibited Food Guidelines
Due to the increased risk of food borne illness, the use of the following foods is prohibited:

* Raw beef, such as steak tartare and carpaccio
* Raw fish, that is not sushi grade (e.g. ceviche)
* Oysters served raw
* Unpasteurized fruit or vegetable juices
* Unpasteurized milk
* Unpasteurized cheeses (that are not pre-approved)
* Escolar (contains a strong purgative oil, called gempylotoxin, which may cause diarrhea when consumed)
* Pufferfish or fugu (pufferfish can contain levels of tetrodotoxin that may result in death)
* Alligator*
* Raw sprouts that are not cooked prior to consumption
* Taro leaf (all parts of the taro plant contain acrid principles due to the presence of calcium oxalate crystals which are irritating to the mouth and esophagus)
* Ti leaves
* Banana leaves served uncooked
* Stinging nettles (skin that comes in contact with fresh nettles will result in a temporary and painful skin rash)
* Peanut oil
* MSG

* Foie Gras, Monkfish and Chilean Sea bass (unless certified by the Marine Stewardship Council), are also ingredients that we do not use at the Epcot®International Food & Wine Festival, and we are asking that your recipes do not include these items.
* We encourage our chefs to purchase sustainably harvested seafood when possible, and to encourage them to visit the Seafood Watch web site for a list of the "Best Choices" fish selection.

I was wondering if you had any more information about gluten free options at the Food and Wine Festival? I know last year there were no options for risk of cross contamination. If there are gluten free options that is great, but it makes me a little bit sad since I was a CP last year lol. Thanks!

Thanks for the information , Cheshire Figment. :)

My 4 yr old DS has a life-threatening peanut & tree nut allergy. We have had good luck everywhere we've eaten so far. I will say that the chefs at Chef Mickey's, Tusker House were great! Very attentive & offered to make anything he wanted...even spaghetti for breakfast if he wanted! Here is a list of the places we've eaten over the last few years:
Chef Mickeys
Tusker House
Hollywood & Vine
Tony's Towne Square
The Plaza
Pinocchios
Coral Reef
Hoop Dee Doo
Crystal Palace
Cape May Buffet
Cosmic Ray's
We will be trying Ohana this time & I have to admit I'm quite nervous about it. I hear Chef TJ is fantastic but what if he's not there when we're there?
