I'm a newbie to this sight. DH and I went to Disney in 2003 and haven't been back since. We are planning on going to Disney in September 2011. We are upgrading from the snack plan to the basic dining. So, we will get some sit down meals. What's good for a 7 and 5 year old. Both boys. We will definately do Chef Mickey's one of the days, just not sure which meal. We will have 5 people total b/c Grandma is coming along too.

With boys of that age I would definitely do Whispering Canyon Cafe at WL.

It is a "rustic" cowboy type restaurant with good food and antics by the servers.
They yell, throw straws at you, have the kids run "ketchup" to other tables, have stick horse races around the restaurant. Kids get a real kick out of it...especially boys.

It can be alot of fun. My husband loves it there. ;)

My kids are DD8 and DS who turned 7 on our recent trip. Their favorites were Chef Mickey, T-Rex, and Sci-Fi. I would highly recommend all 3, T-Rex is not on the dining plan though if you're using that. I would also recommend getting early ADR's before the parks open. We had 2 early breakfast and it was so nice to be done and in the parks before rope drop :)

Chef Mickey's, Whispering Canyon at Wilderness Lodge, Sci-Fi Dine-In at the Studios, Prime Time Cafe at the Studios, Crystal Palace Dinner (w/ Pooh and friends) at Magic Kingdom, Ohana at Polynesian, T-Rex at Downtown Disney are all great choices. My 6-year-old cousin loves them.

I agree. The kids will enjoy the WC. My DD10 and DD5 love the Crystal Palace in the MK. Pooh and friends are there.

Welcome to the DIS boards!

My DS 6 loves:
Whispering Canyon for the "horse races"

The Coral Reef for watching the fish, and loves the waitress Iliana, and loves the build your own sundae for dessert.

The Sci Fi at DHS, though the first time the movies scared him, but now he loves it!

Breakfast at the Yaht Club's Captain's Grille -no characters, but he loved the selection on the buffet.

The Mara (counter service) at the Animal Kingdom lodge - he likes checking out the animals after eating there. Especially at night if they have the night vision goggles available.

The Plaza Restaurant at MK - he loves the Mickey Sundae for dessert.

Definitely T-Rex. Also, Crystal Palace. My kids weren't really big eaters at that age, so atmosphere was the #1 consideration for us. They LOVED Teppan Edo, but didn't really eat much there. It was just entertaining.

We just went to Whispering Canyon Cafe for the first time on Monday and it was a lot of fun. My 7 and 4 year olds had a great time and so did the adults. We had the family-style skillet and the food was good but not great. The pulled pork and chicken were really good and the ribs and beef were just ok. The servers do all kinds of antics and they have a stick pony race for the kids. Your boys would have a good time.

My boys are just about the same age as yours!! They have several favorites:
- SciFi because of the cars to sit in and the old movies playing
- TRex because the dinosaurs are amazing
- Chef Mickeys, Tusker House, Cape May Cafe, Garden Grill for character meals
- Teppan Edo because the chef puts on a cool show while cooking
- CRT because they got to eat inside the castle and got a sword

Lots of great places for boys to have fun. If you need more details, check out my trip reports in my signature for lots of pictures of character meals and stuff.

Have a great trip!!

My kids are now 6 & 8 (DD & DS) and have been eating at table service restaurants for a few years now at WDW. First, keep in mind what your kids like and can handle. If they can't handle loud noises or they have difficulty sitting still, keep that in mind.

My kids love Le Cellier but they LOVE steak and the service we get there even though it doesn't have 'antics' or anything like that.

They also like Ohanas for dinner (shrimp!) and activities. The fact they can get up and move around is really nice for the rest of us adults who like to sit and enjoy our meal.

Of course they love Chef Mickey's mostly for the fab five and make your own sundae but my DH and I did not like it. But it was worth it to see the fab 5, especially for the kids!

And even boys like the princesses! We had a character meal at Akershus which was the best character meal we've ever had and everyone enjoyed it. It had a cold buffet so we could get as much of that but a hot individual dish. The decor was lovely and the princesses were fun.

Have fun!!!
