Someone refresh my memory, please. Do you have to sail within the two years of the placeholder or can you just book it. We have one that we bought Oct of this year and are hoping to use it with the inaugural sailing of the 2021 ship. I assume it will be open for booking before Oct 2020.

The future cruise must depart before the 24 month window closes. Here's a handy-dandy link to figure out when that future cruise must begin by: https://disneycruiselineblog.com/cr...-booking-benefits-expiration-date-calculator/

If you booked the Placeholder, say, Oct 15, 2018, then you must book a cruise that begins before Oct 14, 2020 to retain the perks.
 
DCL counts those 24 months to a tee, they won't let you go over a day.
I have been a week late and it was a no go.
