Can you enter a placeholder reservation into the DCL website? I tried but it said it could not find the reservation. Does it have to be an actual booking to find it?
As far as I know, there is no actual reservation # assigned until you book a specific cruise. (and no indication on the site that you have a placeholder, you just have to know that you do, and then call to book)

You do have a reservation # with the placeholder, it was in my confirmation email and when I booked a specific cruise with it, it kept that number. (That's one of the reasons the placeholder needs to be transferred to a TA within 30 days vs. within 30 days of using it to book a cruise.) Sadly that # does not show up on the DCL website until you've booked a specific cruise.
It makes it so much tougher to book an opening day cruise if you have to use a placeholder. While you are waiting to talk with someone..............everyone else is booking their cruises online.

In the past, placeholders used to show up on the DCL website, with a cruise date of some absurd date in the future. Then the "improved" the site and they no longer show up, or can be added until converted to an actual cruise.
