I have what will probably be a simple question, but as a cruise newbie I don’t want to mess this up! With the phones being so busy, I don’t want to call and then have to call back another time because I didn’t have everything I needed.

My family went on our first Disney cruise last year and booked a placeholder (thanks to suggestions I read here on the boards!) on the ship. We listed Costco Travel as the travel agent because we had no issues with their service and were happy to be receiving the cash card. We booked our second cruise for early August 2020, but plans changed in January and we ended up rebooking for late August 2020.

Now, with everything going on, we don’t think we’ll be ready to get on a cruise ship again by August. Our placeholder ends July 2021, so we’d need to use it by then. I don’t want to let it expire because it’s one of the ones that still includes the on board credit.

Would we need to have a new cruise date to reschedule our current trip to without losing the placeholder, or could we cancel and pick another date at another time to apply the placeholder to?

I believe we have until 90 days to cancel without losing my deposit. Is that correct? Is there any benefit to waiting until we’re closer to 90 days, or could we cancel/make the change now? DCL extended the paid in full date, but the original date through Costco Travel was the end of this month, so I’d like to have a plan in place by then.

Thanks in advance for your help!

You have to change the sail date on your current reservation....don't cancel. If you cancel you will lose your discount. This must be done prior to your balance due date. Depending on the length of the cruise, Disney wants final payment either 90 or 120 days prior to departure.

If you cancel the cruise, you lose the placeholder. If Disney cancels the cruise, you keep the placeholder. Just move it to a different cruise later if that would make you feel more comfortable. I would move before PIF date so you don’t lose any money.

If you don't have a definite future date yet, just choose a date as far out as possible and "park" it there. Once you make definite plans, you can move it again. Just don't forget about the parked date because it will have a PIF date and you'll lose it if you forget.
