So my wife and I are talking about potentially grabbing a place holder while on our 3 night cruise in May. The question I have is, if we purchased it, would we be able to use it on a Holiday on the High Seas cruise? We don't want to cruise on Christmas, but potentially in December, we are working on my college schedule while doing this. So our available dates are a little limited.

Placeholders are valid for a cruise that sails within 24 months of when you booked it. Since you're sailing in May 2025, your placeholder will be valid until May 2027 so you should be good to go for a Merrytime cruise in either Dec 2025 or Dec 2026. Hope that helps

Kind of? The main thing is, i've heard rumors about the place holder not working aorund holidays. So i wanted to be sure that as long as we're not cruising on Christmas... we could use the placeholder for a Merrytime cruise.

Also, if you decided you did want to sail on one of the blackout dates, you can always apply the $250 towards that cruise, you just won't get the 10% off. There's no real risk to getting the placeholder if there's a chance you might use it.

Just apply for placeholder in the DCL navigator app. If you decide to go on a cruise on the blackout dates you won't be eligible for the offer but you'll get a refund if you don't use placeholder. I'm not sure if you apply your placeholder $250 towards the blackout cruise will work but however you can still purchase a placeholder onboard and if you don't use the placeholder you'll have a refund.

Merrytime cruises tend to be offered for a good 7-8 weeks each fall, from early November until Christmas. I've never seen a blackout for that extended period of time. If there is a placeholder blackout, it's usually for the specific cruise that includes the actual holiday (Thanksgiving day, Christmas day, etc.).

We are cruising on a Merrytime cruise this year that does not span over an actual holiday. We were able to have the discount applied.

I’ve done several Merrytime with the placeholders. The black out dates seem to be the cruises that fall over Christmas. November or early December should not be an issue.

We've definitely applied placeholder discounts to Merrytime cruises. As long as you avoid any blackout dates, which PP mentioned are usually just for actual holidays, you should be good!

Here’s where the above link takes you. You can extrapolate 2024 and 2025 to the future if you are looking for later years.

I have kicked myself many times for not getting a Placeholder. You can get your money back if you opt to not use it. But you can’t get one as soon as you disembark.
