hi guys!
I’m sure this has been covered before but having trawled through pages and pages I can’t find anything, I’m sure your brilliant minds can answer more swiftly...

We have an OBB placeholder we are expecting to change to a booking today. I know we’ll need to pay more on the deposit but will that be a 10% deposit as if the whole cruise was booked onboard or now 20%? Also, am I right assuming that’s have to be paid straight away (ie can only hold a cruise if not using OBB?) or could I hold it for the 3 days to decide then ring up to transfer the OBB and pay (will the prices change)

Thanks in advance!

You should still be able to do the 3 day hold

Your deposit when booking your placeholder will be 10% of the total cruise fare (not including port fees and taxes) less the $250 placeholder deposit for cruises of 7-nights or longer. For cruises of 6-nights or less, the deposit will be 20% of the total cruise fare (not including port fees and taxes) less the $250 placeholder deposit. As far as I know, you are still allowed to place a 3-day hold on the cruise with the onboard booking benefits in place, as long as you call into DCL and book the hold under the placeholder reservation number. If you only place a 3-day hold without doing it in conjunction with your placeholder, you cannot later transfer it to the placeholder, it would have to be an entirely new booking under the placeholder reservation at that time, with the current pricing (and onboard booking benefits applied).

It was my understanding it was 10% and ofcourse the $250,- will be subtracted from that. But today is also my first time booking with a placeholder, so I'm not sure

Thank you all so much. I knew the trusty DISers wouldn't let me down. now to wait and see how much of my money Mickey wants this time ;-)

I've already looked at the Disboards Acronym page, but OBB is not listed. Please explain what that stand for. Could it mean On Board Booking?

For me, OBB means onboard booking benefit, which can be applied to either a future cruise or a placeholder booked at the Future Cruise Desk while on a cruise. The OBB consists of:
  • 10% off of the total cruise fare (not including port fees and taxes), unless sailing Concierge or during a blackout date.
  • An onboard credit (OBC) of $200 for a cruise of 7-nights or longer, $100 for a cruise of 6-nights or fewer.
  • A reduced deposit of 10% for cruises of 7-nights or less (in the case of a placeholder, the $250 placeholder deposit will be applied to the deposit amount).
  • Ability to schedule or (re)schedule to commence sailing within 730-days (normally two-years, but if a Leap Day occurs in the two-year period, it is a day less than two-years) from the initial booking date of the OBB, either future cruise booked onboard or the booking of a placeholder).
