Umm... how much trouble do we think DCL is in this fall that it is offering this, all the *GT rates, and the $250 onboard credit for Disney Visa/DVC?

They clearly have some pretty empty ships to fill in August & September!! To be fair this is ALWAYS the slowest & cheapest time of year for them- but obviously its even slower than normal this year.

Some portion of that may be driven by people waiting and going on the Destiny in Nov and/or Adventure in Dec instead of booking a Wish cruise in Aug/Sept.

Im used to late August/ Sept being low crowds but the fact that they are offering them all the way to Aug 1st not normal IMO. Many, many schools do not go back until late August or even early September.

I guess it could be the Destiny but the Treasure did not seem to cause this and it only premiered a month later than the Destiny is scheduled to. Maiden appears sold out for Destiny but Thanksgiving still has spots opens as does all of Dec on the Destiny (And why these aren't listed as Merry Time Sailings I have no idea)

In my mind the Destiny is more of a true direct competitor to the Wish since its also offering the shorter cruises with similar ports from Florida. The Treasure launched doing only 7-nighters. So if someone knows they want to take a 3-5 night cruise and they are choosing between a brand new ship and a 4 year old ship for similar price points they are more inclined to chose the brand new ship.

I know every school calendar is a bit different but my kids go back earlier and earlier each year it seems!! They start 8/13 this year! (WAAAAY too early in my opinion, but they don't ask me, lol)

wow, that's late! For GA and FL (that I have been near) they start the first week of August, yay out before memorial day! :) But I gripe about "fall break" and "Winter break", when we were kids, our fall break was Thanksgiving and winter was Christmas hahahah

We are in NC and our county (one of the bigger school districts) goes back August 25th. First week in August is even before most Universities start.

Yes we also get out before Memorial Day. No "extra" fall or winter break though.

Wow, this deal is sucking me in. Do we think it can be stacked with $250 Disney Visa promo as well for applicable Wish bookings?

I am late to the game. What is the $250 wish deal
$250 in stateroom credit for booking with a Disney Visa (or if you are a DVC member).

No idea but it would be strange to me if they allowed it for Restricted GT rooms (which never stack with discounts historically) and not with placeholder discount

Is the Visa only applicable on Restricted rates?

We start 8/4 in AZ and I’m a teacher so I’m back the week before! But I still looked at it hahaha. I’m not even seeing the 8/1 sailing online anymore. I looked at the Labor Day one too but it’s gone for four. Realistically with flights these short cruises don’t make sense for us. But it’s fun to check!

For this discount you have to call. Its not on the website. I am still seeing the 8/1 sailing on the DCL site so not sold out yet.

But wait. I'm missing something here. As a DVC member and/or Disney credit card holder, I can get 30% off during this same period along with a $250 OBC. If I were to use my placeholder, I'm actually getting a worse deal because it's only an extra 20% off, rather than the full 30%.

You're not missing anything.
If you're a DVC member or Disney Visa cardholder, this offer isn't a good use of your placeholder.

If you are not a DVC member or Disney Visa cardholder, you can get an extra 20% off by using your placeholder on these cruises.

It's equivalent to Walt Disney World offering a discount on select restaurants for Disney+ members that's the same discount as offered to annual passholders. If you already have access to the discount, you don't get additional savings, but if you didn't already have access, now you do.

Here is the biggest difference. With the placeholder discount, you can still select your stateroom with the other one you’re at DCL’s mercy and rolling the dice. Also, if you have a family of five, you cannot take advantage of a restricted GT rate. But you can take advantage of this discount.

So is this using a placeholder to get 30% total off a regular room rate or can this be used on a GTY rate ? Doesn’t make sense to me to waste a placeholder on a regular rate room when I’m guessing it’s relatively the same rate as the GTY ( I’m guessing that’s the case ).
I guess you do get to pick your room though
