pkg vs resort only reservations

I have had booked since August 04 for our May 05 trip a room plus tickets package through disney.com (was formerly a Ultimate parkhopper, switched to MYW when it came out) this is my question, since the new MYW is, in my thinking, actually a room res plus choice of park length/features, couldn't you switch to a room only, and then purchase your tickets separately (ie an AP for the discount, and then a MYW (myself and DH) would they honor your already reserved room? We have a ressie at BC, would like to apply discounts,
or switch to YC. thanks!
