PJs in Public?

I dont care or really notice if other people wear them. But i dont like to wear PJs even at my house if peopel are coming over. Sometimes i get changed before i leave my room in the mourning if my roomate is up. So i cant imagine wearing them out and about

I admit it... I went out in my pajamas today (though that means sweatpants and a long sleeved shirt). I had showered, brushed my teeth, put on real shows, and a jacket though. With the snow I had not planned on going out at all today, but realized we needed dog food. Problem was, I had just started laundry with all my jeans and the like in it... and I was NOT about to put on a pair of dress slacks just to run to the grocery.

I guess I never really noticed it... and I don't think there is anything wrong with it as long as they are clean. I would rather see people in pajamas then in pants around their ankles or shirts that they hang out of.

I never wear pajamas but wear yoga pants all the time. I own plenty of jeans/other pants but yoga pants are my favorite. This semester I'll have to wear my yoga pants to both days of classes - I'm taking an acting class and am going to have to dress to move (so my typical "uniform" of yoga pants, a tank top and a zip-up works beautifully). The days I go to my internship I will dress professionally and the day I go to work (on campus) probably just jeans and a nicer top.

And yes, I have done the yoga pants/college hoodie/Uggs/hair in a bun many, MANY times (like this morning I had to run to the bank and to the dry cleaners... I had on my boots, yoga pants, and Boston College long-sleeve t-shirt (where my mom went to school... my Hofstra hoodie was in the wash lol) with my hair in a bun! (Add in the black North Face and I was your stereotypical college girl... sad but true!)

On the weekends at school I usually just stay in my pajamas - the weekends are where I relax and do homework - unless I'm running out to the dining hall and then I put on pants!

ITA:thumbsup2 I mean honestly, people in flannel PJ pants are just as covered up as people who are walking around in jeans. Heck, sometimes the PJ pants can be more 'decent' looking because they are more loose fitting (and therefore less revealing) than tight jeans. They can even be neater looking for those concerned about that...considering how many jean styles have ripped holes in them.

I just dont' see a big deal about the pajama pants in public. :confused3 Doesn't bother me at all.

i saw a lady looking at jewelry in kmart wearing a bathrobe and slippers and she had her hair in rollers!!! :confused3

Not a new trend at all. I went to College in the Reading, PA area back in the 90's and PJ's were all the rage. They were pretty much all-day attire...class, convenience store, to the bar at night...PJ's.

Come to our WaWa on a Saturday/Sunday morning and it's PJ-palooza! And it's not just teenagers, either, I see 50 year old men in their Eagles PJ bottoms picking up a newspaper and coffee!

I love it, since, to me, being comfortable is wayyy more important than any sort of fake rule a fashion maven tries to force on society so they can sell more overpriced clothing. :thumbsup2
Dang! Who knew I was a trendsetter??? I went to high school in Lancaster County, PA(not far from Reading) from 82-86. And I used to wear Men's pajamas to school all the time.:thumbsup2 I was the only one doing it though back then.

You'd rarely see me without my pjs on when I'm in the house. I LOVE them! But I just can't bring myself to wear them in public, no matter where it is. I guess I don't really mind if other people want to do it. As long as they're not really ratty and gross looking. Slippers in public is where I draw the line, though. Whenever I see people wearing slippers, they ALWAYS seem to be ratty and dirty. :P

I went to an all-girl private high school where the uniform only had skirts, no pants. Well in the winter it got COLD having to be outside in between classes, and the tights we were allowed to wear didn't really cut it. So a lot of the girls would wear pajama bottoms under their skirts to stay warm, but had to take them off in class.

I love my flannel PJ bottoms and can't wait to put them on after dinner if I don't have to go out, but I can't wear them out of the house except maybe to run to the bus stop in the morning (2 houses down). I don't mind seeing kids in DD or WaWa on a Sat. morning in their PJ's, but I don't think they are proper school attire. I work in a HS and really don't like seeing the kids walking around school in PJ's, but they are allowed. If you want to be comfortable, at least put on a pair of sweatpants for school.

I'd never wear PJs beyond the curb of the street - basically the only time I'd go outside in PJs is to drag the trash bin to the curb on "garbage day".

I understand the appeal, though. It seems that there are so many forces acting on our choice of attire, pushing toward the wearing of clothing that is less comfortable than it could be. My wife often muses at how she wishes she could get away with wearing saris to work, church, and around town. She feels that they would be a lot more comfortable than jeans or skirts.
