I just saw the special on the Travel Channel on pizza wars. NY vs. Chicago. I saw them mention Pizzeria Uno. Is that the same as the Pizzeria Uno that is by Goodings?

The pizza looked really good and I thought we could go there for some deep dish one night in November. It would be closer than going to Chicago ;)

Thanks,
Deb

Hi Deb!

Pizzeria Uno is a chain... they are all over. The pizza is Chicago style and pretty good... chunks of whatever in chunky sause on a deep dish crust. I like it, go there occasionally but it's not as wonderful as the REAL Chicago pizza I've had in Chicago. But being in Kansas City,(ie: not in Chicago) when we want Chicago style that is where we go.

Have a great nite, Rella :wave2:

The answer is yes and no. The one that you saw on the Travel Channel is the original Pizzeria Uno in Chicago that has a sister restaurant a couple blocks away called Pizzeria Due. While originally the Pizzeria Uno chain stores had some relationship with the original Pizzeria Uno, even then the pizza did not use quite the same recipe or ovens that the "real" Pizzeria Uno uses. While the chain's pizza is by no means bad, it is not really the high quality Chicago style pizza that natives knock down doors for, nor is it anything very comparable to the real Pizzeria Uno (for example, the crust is very, very different).

The cheese is different too. The pizza at Crossings is OK at best, the stuff downtown is excellent even for a thin crust lover like me. :thumbsup2

ITA with previous posts. The Original Uno and Due are different than the chain version. BUT, it is cheaper than a trip to Chicago.

I prefer a good thin crust pizza, but my closest pizza place is the original Unos. Ack!

We are from Chicago and went to the Uno's near DTD.. YUCK.. not the same at all.. really!! not the same!! as the Chicago pizza we love..
