Hi. We are going to the trailer this weekend.About time, just got over DD's wedding and this weather.
Our other DD17 loves making her own pizzas so I was wandering- has anyone cooked them over a campfire or on a BBQ?Tell us how they turned out, time and temp for BBQ?

Hi, I've done pizza on the BBQ quite a few times. I like to use medium heat on one side of the grill only. I give the grill a bit of a grease to prevent the dough from sticking. Put the dough down over direct heat and let it cook until you see it bubble a bit, then flip it over and put it on the side with no flame.

Once that is done you can put your sauce and cheese and toppings on. Last steps is to close the lid and let goodness cook through.

The trick is to experiment and find out what works for your grill. I think I tried the first few times with some dough that I turned into garlic fingers.

:)

LOL I read this wrong and thought - How can you flip over a pizza on the bbq? the toppings would all fall off!! :rotfl2:

Now it all makes sense. :rotfl:

My friend cooked a frozen pizza on tinfoil on her bbq :confused3 Not sure why, or why she used tinfoil for that matter. Anyways, as you can guess, the pizza stuck to the tinfoil, the grease drippings, from the cheese, made a fire start under her grill. She had flames shooting up around the tinfoil and had to promptly shut off the bbq and try to rescue her pizza. :rotfl:

I cook pizza quite often on the BBQ. I use Pillsbury pizza dough and roll it out on a rectangle nonstick grill (sprayed with Pam) (a cookie sheet would do but would have to watch it carefully so the bottom doesn't burn). I cook the dough until it is golden on the bottom - just set on BBQ rack with burner on low. Then I add the toppings and close the lid until the cheese melts (on the lowest setting). It is delicious!

My dh makes pizza on the BBQ, both pita pizzas and the regular frozen pizzas. He puts the pizzas on a pan and puts in on the BBQ - usually takes about the same amount of time as it does in the oven. Somehow, it's just better on the bbq though :thumbsup2

You can actually get a gadget for the bbq to cook pizzas. It works pretty well (according to my coworker).

I use a pizza stone on the bbq and use a medium heat. I also use this for anything I would cook in the oven on a cookie sheet (chicken strips, fish, french fries etc).
