Is there a New York or east coast style pizza shop near WDW. I would like to find a mom and pop resturant and not a chain resturant.
Thanks.
P.S. 51 days till WDW.

We're Philly natives so enjoy our pizza as well. Our favorite in the Disney area is Flippers at Old Town. I believe they have another location in Kissimmee but have never eaten there.

Hi... another Philly native here. We like : http://www.giordanos.com/
They seem to have stores all over Chicago, but we thought they were good anyway ;) AND they deliver right to the door of our Vistana and OKW villas. The last time we used them was in 2003 though.
Not sure this is exactly what you're looking for as I wouldn't consider them a "mom and pop" shop. But good pizza can be hard to find in FL.....and forget about getting a decent cheesesteak :rotfl:

Uno's Pizzeria is a great place to eat. DH, DS and I all love their food. Plus kids 12 and under pay by how much they way. If they weigh 50 pounds their food from the kids menu is .50. This is only for the one on US 192 though.

While I enjoy Pizzeria Uno, it doesn't meet the OP's conditions. It isn't East-coast style pizza (its Chicago style) and it is a large chain restaurant. As for Giordano's, same problems: Chicago style and large chain.

We'll stick with Flippers. Though there is one other local pizzeria that folks here have often mentioned that I want to try called Cici's. Lots of people speak highly of that place.

I didn't realize that Uno's was a large chain. As I have only seen them in Orlando. I am from Florida and we don't have them in the area where I live. Sorry about that.

As for Cici's they are wonderful. I have one in our hometown that we go to at least once a week. Friendly service and great prices.

Flippers is wonderful. The only pizza place in the Kissimmee area that I will order from and have delivered to our room.

How would you compare the two? Similar types of pizza? Do you think one is better than the other, and if so, why? We definitely have to try Cici's next trip. So many people have mentioned it.

I agree Steve. The only reason I listed it was because it's one of the very few that I'm aware of that actually will deliver to your resort. Thought that might be a plus for Giordano's. But admittedly, it's not like Philly pizza, but it was good nonetheless.
Does anyone know of any other pizza places that will deliver to hotels ? I see Flippers was mentioned---do they have an online menu ? Just curious.....sorry, I know this veres off from the OP's request. :flower:

Oh that's ok SheDaisy.....I can tell you we have them here in PA as well (in the Philly and burbs area).

While Giordano's is a Chicago chain, we ordered the thin crust pizza there one night and it was very good. They're certainly more known for the deep dish but we were pleasantly surprised by the thin crust.

I'm managing editor for a national pizza magazine (and yes, it is the best job in the world!!). If you have a car and can get to downtown, consider NYPD Pizza. It's OK, but has awesome ambience. It's owned partially by the guy who started the Backstreet Boys, discovered Aaron Carter and produced Jordan Knight's latest CD. There's the off chance that you might see a recording artist while you're there.

Cici's is also a buffet chain restaurant based out of Texas. Giordano's is, indeed, a chain, known for their stuffed pizza, and they have a flagship store in downtown Chicago. The original Uno's is also located in Chicago, across the street from it's sister store, Due; however, the pizza served at the franchised Uno's units are not the same as the traditional Chicago-style deepdish pizza.

Every trip to Orlando (or Chicago, or the few other areas that have Giordano's) has to have at least one pizza. They are, bar none, the BEST! I personally like the thin (but they still aren't as thin as real NYC style) but, everytime I have one, the deep dish are amazing. The problem is one or two slices and you are stuffed. I'm normally an Uno fan (we have those in town but no Giordano's) but given a choice it's Giordano's everytime. There are two locations in Orlando - one near Westgate on 192 (next to the old Splendid China) and the original Orlando location in Lake Buena Vista Plaza - 535. By the way it's a 2 minute walk from Cypress Pointe and that makes it even better.

First off I want to say that I am originally from Philly. To me there is no Pizza like Tony's Tomato Pie (Frankford Ave @ Levick). Here in Syracuse you can't get anything close to Tony's so I make my own. If this makes me a Pizza Snob...so be it. LOL

On our last trip we ate at Giordanos Pizza on 192 West in Kissimmee. We ordered two large Pizzas and Coke's for the four of us (FYI...two of the four were teenagers). The thin crust was very good but the bill for the two large Pizzas and drinks was nearly $50 before tip. Each Pizza with three topings was better than $18 each. For what we spent I could have eaten on Disney Property for about the same amount (taking into account that we have a DDE card which saves us 20% on many meals). I would rather have gone to Sonny's BBQ or Ruby Tuesday's for what we spent. We will probably skip Giordano's next trip in lue of another restaurant.

Sometimes we just enjoy eating in our villa. If Disney delivered good pizza to the rooms I'd go with them. But when we stay at OKW, Giordano's, pricey as they may be, is our only option. When we stay at Vistana they do have a Pizza Hut onsite, but we still like Giordano's better.

We go to Cici's alot. It's really cheap $3.99 for all you can eat pizza. The only problem is that it is NOT New York Style pizza. I absolutely cannot eat their regular pizza there. When I eat there, I can eat the taco pizza (taco sauce instead of pizza sauce), the BBQ pizza (BBQ sauce instead of pizza sauce), the cheddar and bacon pizza (has ranch dressing as the sauce), or the pepperoni alfredo pizza. They usually have about 12 different kinds of pizza. My son will only eat cheese pizza. He usually has to special request some slices, because sometimes they are hard to find. The crust isn't thin like the New York style. The price can't be beat. They also have plain noodles and you can top them with either alfredo or marinara sauce. There is a small salad bar included in your price too. It's located right by the Olive Garden just down from Crossroads.

We will have to try Flippers. I really miss NY pizza. I have to wait until summer when I go back north to get some good pizza.

There's a pizza place down here called NYPD pizza.
I should have researched it to find the exact location for you before posting.
It's not right around the corner from WDW but, if you have a rental car, it is consistantly ranked among the best pizza in the city and most authentic to NYC. Hope this helps.....I can try to see if they have a website.........

Is this it?
http://www.nypdpizzaonline.com/locations.asp

If so, I'll have to check it out. The Hiawassee location isn't too far from the Universal area where we usually are. I can't get anything near NYC pizza here in South Carolina so I'm anxious to find some.

That's it, that's it!!!!!! :Pinkbounc
I'm glad it won't be too far from where you are.
If you go to www.orlando.citysearch.com and type in NYPD pizza to search, you can read some reviews and get more information about the restaurant. I also believe (though I'm not 100% positive) you can find them in Zagat's or Fodor's too.
Great, now I'm hungry for pizza................. maybe a late lunch is in order :moped:
