My regular pizza shop recently added a 2 buck delivery fee, of which 1 dollar goes to the driver. I noticed on the receipt they are also charging a "service fee" of 1.80 IN ADDITION to the delivery fee. So I called and they explained they have been charging this on delivery for years. Not on pick up. SO now they are charging 2 dollars for delivery and 1.80 for service fee? And the driver still needs to be tipped ? I normally do not look at my receipt. But the pizza seemed really expensive! The girl on the phone did tell me they charge a "service fee" of 1 dollar on all pick up pizza too, but she said no one ever complains. Seems kind of shady to me to have all kinds of fees.

How much do YOU normally pay for a pizza delivered?

How much do you normally tip the driver?

DO I tip on the price of pizza? Or on the total with all the stupid fees?

ANy pizza delivery people? What is a standard tip?

Hmm. I think I would look for another pizza place. The sevice fee for simply ordering and picking up your own pizza sounds especially vile. I wonder if they are reporting the 'service fee' as an 'expense' on their income tax computation? Meaning, a way to earn extra income without it being reported as income but a business expense?

I guess that for a $20 delivered pizza, I usually tip $3 or $4 bucks. It has been so long since I had pizza I really don't remember.

Don't for a second think that the driver is getting any or all of that delivery fee and service charge. My ex delivered pizza and got a whopping 60 cents of the delivery fee.

I would look for a new one, too. We only get Pizza Hut delivery (I like ordering online) -- there's a $2.50 delivery charge -- no "service fee." WTH? That should be computed as part of the cost of doing business and rolled into their menu prices.

I normally tip 20-25%, because usually when we order pizza delivery, it's when the weather's so bad we don't want to go out -- My rationale is that if I'm going to tip 15-20% for someone to bring food to my table, I will tip better to have them bring it to my house in all sorts of awful Chicago weather.

I usually call and pick up my own pizza.
If I have it delivered...I tip 10%ish. I've also been told the delivery fee is not part of the delivery person's take but goes to the store.

I give 15-20% tip. My ma's new hubby delivers pizzas. He doesn't get any of the delivery fee. Not sure what the delivery fee is reimbursing the store for, since the delivery guy drives his own car, buys his own gas, etc!! He does, I think, get "mileage" in addition to his minimum wage paycheck, but it's hardly anything. maybe the delivery fee is to reimburse the store for what they give the delivery guy for mileage? If so, they must make extra profit on it!!

I called and asked the pizza place about the delivery fee, they claim 1 dollar of it goes to the driver. The driver said he is not allowed to comment for fear of losing his job which means he prob gets nothing. And as far as the service fee goes, that all goes to the pizza place. So its like 4 extra bucks for delivery.

I am thinking of reporting this to the BBB, I know it is just a minor little fee, but it seems misleading to me. Just charge more for the pizza for petes sake!

I need a new pizza place. :) I just was suffering from sticker shock that the pizza was 23 bucks before tip. It was just a plain cheese pizza! I usually make my own for health reasons (to control fat etc), for like 4 bucks. I was being lazy while I was studying, that was expensive!

I wouldn't bother with the BBB. I'd go to the Attorney General, Consumer Affairs, or a local consumer reporter.

If you don't mind, where do you live? Maybe we can find you another pizza place - one that doesn't charge a service charge even for pickup! Sheesh. I have GOT to stop at my local place tomorrow (note to self: leave for work early) and ask the owner. Those charges are ridiculous.

I always get pizza on cheap pizza night (different pizzarias), $8.50 pies. No one here charges for delivery (since there must be close to 50 of them within 3 miles), and I usually end up tipping $3 (on my 2 pies).
