We recently went to Pizza Planet for the first time. I had built up an image in my mind of what it would be (which I realize is always a dangerous thing), with the seating area where it was but with a real separate arcade somewhere within the building. I was pretty underwhelmed with what we found.
I knew the pizza would be theme park pizza, as I had done enough research to see pictures of it. Wasn't great, but also not horrible, and I knew what we were getting...although I got the veggie option, and it appeared it was just the standard cheese pizza with a little glob of the veggies plopped down in the middle (i.e., doubtful that they were cooked with the pizza itself). I also noticed that one of the servers was filling a big order on one tray and opted to lean/stack about half a dozen pizzas together (envison several dominos that had fallen). When you can stack pizzas without collateral melted cheese "damage" to plates or the pizza itself, you again realize this is not top shelf stuff.
Daughter got the meatball sub. She wasn't crazy about it, but I ate about half of it and probably could have enjoyed it as my primary meal. (Yes, I had ordered the veggie pizza, but I am by no means a vegetarian...it just sounded good, again with a vision of fresh vegetables cooked into the pizza...my mistake.)
We all had side Caesar salads, which were actually the highlight of the meal. I could have eaten those all day long. I have heard good things about their cupcakes, but we have our dessert favorites at other places at DHS, so we opted out.
As for the arcade, I again had the impression that this would include a lot of retro video games (which I had heard someone say before), and I had been fully prepared to let my kids hang out for a while and play a few. But all I really saw was some racing games, a skeeball lane, a basketball shooting game and a couple of "claw" type games. Maybe I didn't explore enough, or is that the gist of it?
What did I miss here? We didn't go upstairs, as my understanding was that all the games were downstairs, but is that right/wrong? Is there some specific appeal to PP that we just missed? Again, I realize it is QS, so expectations should be kept to a reasonable level, and I get that.
Pizza Planet could be a ridiculously neat place with relatively little effort...a real "arcade" area and some menu upgrades, etc. Would love it if Disney would do something like that as they work toward apparently increasing the Pixar presence at DHS. In the meantime, I guess we've checked it off our list.
