WDW News Today reporting that Pizza Planet is closing in January to reopen late 2016 .... and the rumor that it will reopen as a Muppet's eatery. Always anticipated it would turn Star Wars but would be totally okay with Muppets.

Pizza Planet is in fact on the refurb list as closing January 11th if i am not mistaken. There is a rumor that it will be themed to muppets but that of course is not confirmed. Star wars will go over in the echo lake area and extend into the parking lot. Muppets is supposed to stay. A lot was dependent on how well the muppets TV show did.

Star wars will go over in the echo lake area and extend into the parking lot. Muppets is supposed to stay. A lot was dependent on how well the muppets TV show did.

I have seen no confirmations on the location of SWL, just speculation, but agree that echo/parking lot area makes the most sense of all the plans tossed out there ... and it also makes sense to keep Muppet*Vision since they own it and it's importance to Muppet history.

Yep, I was just adding to it because Wdwnt is not the most trusted Disney site out there. Locations of Star Wars in the echo lake area are a pretty safe bet. Toy story then behind TSMM.

It's a rumor forum, so I shared a rumor from one of the larger bloggers. I have found that even the "most reputable" give out wrong information when they are excitedly speculating ... but it's entertaining. And until it comes out of the Mouse's mouth, there are no safe bets, and even then ..... Star Wars Weekends 2016 being in promotional materials .... when CMs had been told in June it was not coming back.

I just go with nothing is a given until it is in actual existence and live.

WDWNT frequently lists rumors that are false in the effort to be first. I think the Muppets are a real long shot here.

The Muppets rumor has been around for years. That was the original plan for that restaurant when they put in Muppets 3D vision and the court yard but it didn't happen. When ever I hear this one it is I'll believe it when I see it rumor since it has come and gone for at least the past 4 years.

There's been plans to expand the Muppets area since it was first built, with a Great Muppet Movie Ride among other things. This old concept art from back in the day shows a Swedish Chef restaurant/attraction near where Pizza Planet is now, but this is probably where the rumor comes from

Yes it is. However a muppet restaurant is not out the question here. With such a long refurb major work is going to be done.

I agree about that. I will confess that I never went to Pizza Planet, but that's because the pictures weren't that amazing. I feel like if they could do to Pizza Planet what they did with Be Our Guest, that would make it amazing. We like theming.

A lot of this is riding on the fate of the Muppet's television show, which is all backroom talks at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if Disney has two plans lined up - one Muppets, and one...something else.

Unless they are planning on moving the Muppet Theater I'd expect everything in that area to get a Muppets theme, because the new concept for Hollywood Studios seems to be all large immersive lands, like a kind of sequel to the Magic Kingdom. Instead of Main Street, with Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Adventureland... it seems like it's will be Hollywood Boulevard, with Star Wars-land, Toy Story-land and some kind of Muppets-land would fit with that type of master plan

I recall seeing a couple map overlays showing potential locations for SW Land way back in August/Sept after it was first announced. Do you happen to have a link to a map that would show the location of SW Land as you describe it here?

There are currently no plans to move or get rid of muppets so yes a muppets restaurant is a good bet.

I would be fine with rebranding it as something else as long as we get a true proper Pizza Planet that looks straight out of Toy Story when Pixar Place opens
