<<It's a slice of heaven for hungry travelers from Mexico.

Customers of Pizza Patrón, a Texas-based chain of pizzerias geared towards the Latino community, will be able to buy their pies for a limited time with pesos as well as dollars.

"We're trying to reach out to our core customer," Antonio Swad, the president of Pizza Patrón Inc., told the Dallas Morning News on Friday.

"We know they come back [from Mexico] and have pesos left over. We want to be a convenient place for them to spend their pesos.
The company will accept pesos in bill form through February at each of its 59 locations, according to the Dallas Morning News, at a set conversion rate of 12 pesos per dollar, slightly higher than the rate of trading.

The program may be extended, the paper reported.

Swad told the paper he is willing to take the heat from those who might be against the program.

"We know the purity of our intention, and we're willing to take the heat when there is heat," he told the Morning News.>>

What does everyone think? Is it just me who has somewhat of a problem with this?

Is it any different than when we Americans go to Canada and use our American Dollars, rather than the local Canadian?

Businesses and individuals in other countries take US dollars in place of their own currency. If the peso's good, I don't see why businesses can't accept it if they choose to.

When you come to Canada, you should use Canadian dollars.

Umm...I have no problem with it. That's their choice. Why does it bother you?

In Michigan, Canadian coins are accepted everywhere (except vending machines.) What's the diff?

I was going to say something to this effect. NO matter where you go, if you can find a place that exchanges money, you can get any form you want. There are tons of money exchange places right here in Naples as you leave the port. There are even a few businesses in the area which will accept American money. Why? Because it is convenient for the Americans unable to find an ATM easily and it gives the store more business. WHat does it cost the business? Nothing. They just take it to the bank and exchange it for Euros.

Why, they are not FORCING anyone to pay with pesos.

Everyone is still FREE to pay with USD.

I just saw this on the news last night. I don't have a problem with it! There a lots of time I wish I could have used my leftover Francs...Patacas...etc. over here!!! :yay: It is up to the business owner, I think. Just my opinion!

They are making money on taking the foreign currency. Many places around here will take Canadian money at a worse exchange rate than a bank. It is the customer's choice to pay more for their food and for the restaurant to make a quick $ without very much effort

Funny, when I was in the business world, I travelled to Toronto every quarter for a week at a time. Whenever I was at a restaurant, bar, shop, etc... they always always preferred my American dollar over theirs. I know that usually meant I'd spend more for something but I didn't care. It was a write off.

I'm fine with it. There's a Pizza Patron right by my house, and I can tell you that their clientel is probably 95% Latino. If this makes it easier for them to do business - it works for me.

The only thing I care about is that they make the best $5 pizza anywhere.

Fortunately for you, I assume you're not a retailer near the US border or you'd be out of business pretty quickly. Every place I've been in Canada happily took US currency. They screwed you on the exchange rate, naturally, but that's the price I pay for being too lazy to exchange my US dollars.

Free enterprise. Private businesses should be allowed conduct business in the way they see fit, and if they want to accept pesos in addition to American dollars, it's nobodies business but their own. :confused3

I could care less if they do or not. It is their businesses decision.

If they want to accept pesos they can. They may win or lose with this depending on the exchange rates.

In fairness--when we cruised to Cozumel and they accepted dollars. They do so in Jamaica as well and Grand Cayman. I think many of the Carribean islands do.

While it may be frowned upon for a business in the US to take that step, it would be hypocritical to proclaim how wrong it is when there are foreign businesses who are willing to accept our dollars.

Their business, their choice. Hookairs.

Even in Cleveland, I periodically get Canadian coins in my change. I've only once - in my entire life - had someone refuse to take Canadian coins when I spent them in another store.

Anotehr one who doesn't think it's a big deal. I have used USD in many places other that here...Bahamas, Mexico, Grand Cayman, etc.
