Pixter?

Does anyone's child have a Fisher price Pixter? My 6.5 year old has asked for one for Christmas. They seem kind of expensive $35 for the regular/$50 for Pixter Plus. Then I think you have to buy cartridges. Will he outgrow it soon? I don't want to spend a lot of money on it if it is going to be too babyish. I had not seen or heard of these before, so any comments would be helpful.

My dd age 8 has one. she likes it and still plays with it. (she got it for Christmas last year.) You do have to buy the cartrages to use it. We did get her the art safari one though. That's the one she plays with the most.
