Pixie Dust was sprinkled!!!

I thought I got sprinkled with pixie dust once...Then I realized someone just sneezed on me. :sad2:

I know there will always be people who read good stories like this and then try to get the same thing by "faking it." But I think that what helps at Disney is that it is totally discretionary on the part of the CM, and the CM's are pretty good at spotting guests who are are trying to get something for nothing vs. those who are truly deserving. It's just like resort upgrades...asking is the surest way not to get one....but being a truly genuine, friendly person just might get you some pixie dust. I think the CM's can smell entitlement a mile away!

You know, I'm actually surprised that Cheshire Figment hasn't posted here yet, so I'm going to channel him. ;) Check the ticket sticky on this forum, and in particular, post #15. The ticket sticky is your friend! :goodvibes

Only on the dis can a nice thread about some pixie dust turn into people whinging, whining and complaining and questioning the OP. :worried:

I'm so happy that you had Pixie Dust sprinkled on you! I know how carefully I save and budget to get the money for a WDW trip so it must have been beyond frustrating for you when that unexpected cost popped up. I'm so glad Disney was able to help you out. :)

Not being mean hear or trying to stir the pot, but I would buy that if it was her first trip. But she mentioned at the start of her original post:
"Every Other trip we have been on, to Disney we have always gotten park hopper tickets. We usually use them on Animal kingdom day, and then again on our last day, to hop and just ride our faves, on the last day. Works well. "

So to me this means she has been before and knows the difference between park hopper tickets and non hopper tickets.

This is a very common mistake. (Thinking you can purchase tickets for more park days than you actually plan to be there, and then using the extras to visit multiple parks in one day)

Dan

We have been on heaps of trips and never knew. Is this a rule that hasn't always been in place, because I feel certain we used two tickets in one day a couple of years ago. Ignorantly, yes. I really had no idea.:confused3

I kind of think the op should be ashamed of herself. Pay for the ticket or don't go in. I would have said, 'my mistake' and walked Away or taken out my wallet -- not stood there blubbering and putting the cm in a very uncomfortable position..

I guess you are all heart. Not all of us have such fine character. :thumbsup2

As an accountant, I would LOVE to see how Disney does their accounting. I know we, as a regular normal business, have an account set up for "contingencies". It's $25K and it just sits there on the balance sheet and waits to be used. I'm sure Disney's is in the millions if not more. It's a normal process used by companies all over the world. It doesn't drive up prices because it's on the balance sheet and it does NOT hit the income statement. It's a fund set aside where things like this go. So you can take all your talks about profits being hit and move those off the discussion because these things NEVER hit profits.

Where did the $25K funds come from? They certainly didn't just appear out of thin air.

Current year's budget comes from the previous year's profits (or credit, assuming profits will cover the year's credit requirements), based on a number of factors. One of those factors is your contingency of $25K.

Yup!

Wow. Just wow.
Where in ops post did it say she stood there blubbering? She said she was near tears and that the ticket girl seemed upset for her and that she was collecting her bags to leave after going through her different options.
I guess if the ticket cm had offered you three tickets, you would have refused and just dragged your kids off, being too proud to let someone help you out.

You're right. I wouldn't have accepted. I would have paid for them and set a better example for my kids.

You're so lucky! We were there in October and the same thing happened to us. However, we didn't add the extra day until our last day. We are ticket newbies (only ever buying 2-day tickets in the past). We confirmed with the CM at out hotel that we could use the extra ticket that night for MK despite having gone to EP earlier in the day and she said yes. We didn't tell our son it was possible until we got there. Lo and behold, our tix didn't work either. DS was balling his eyes out, our last night there and it was already 8pm. The CM at MK customer service was the rudest Disney employee I have EVER met. She refused to listen to our story (it was a Disney CM who said we could use the tix), said we could only get in by upgrading to hoppers ($175), and refused to give us our money back for the extra day we purchased because my husband wrote our reason for requesting the refund on the form. We left extremely disappointed and wrote to Disney when we got home. They called within a week and apologized and gave us 2-day hoppers for our next trip. Alls well that ends well, but it certainly left a bad taste in our mouths on the last day of our very expensive, first Disney resort stay, vacation.

You could never set a good example for anyone with that nasty self righteous attitude. I can't believe your comment that the OP should be ashamed of herself hasn't been deleted.

So the lesson you want to teach your kids is:

Never do a favor for anyone.

Ok, got it. Thanks!

Shhh. Now everyone will want one! (Walks away muttering "You selfish, selfish person" under my breath)

Best advice to the OP (and everyone else....) never post about the Dis about something good happening, people just get jealous and feel the need to be nasty! :grouphug:

OP, I am glad that Disney was able to provide a little bit of magic to you! They clearly did not owe it to you, but that's what makes Disney special.

Honestly, that is why these boards are so great, because with just a little bit of research, you can find out about things like the proper use of base/hopper tickets. Obviously, from the previous posts, alot of people weren't aware of this and now they are -- effectively preventing some people from being in this situation later on. :thumbsup2

I am sorry people are jumping on you for telling your story. I looked at it as a cautionary tale. I have to say that a few years ago, Southwest airlines lost our luggage on the way down to Disney. We were staying at CBR, and were trying to get the issue sorted out. After a long travel time, and just having the frustration of not having our luggage, I was literally near tears... (just as you were). Out of nowhere, the CBR manager brought me to the desk and comped us $100 to go and get supplies/clothes from the gift shop....to me, that was some Disney magic! They did not have to do it, and I certainly did not ask for it.

I can only imagine what will be said about me for sharing that story...:scared:

You must have been there for the Limited Time Magic "Sneeze Week".

as far as the crying is concerned (or near tears):

I cry at the drop of a hat.. can't help it. the owner of the restaurant yells at me, my eyes tear up (a lot of yelling goes on behind the scenes). a touching tv commercial, I cry..
the time I forgot our water park tickets in the room, I cried all the way back on the bus.

I don't think it's very nice to imply that she cried on purpose. believe me, she was probably trying her best to fight back the tears.

My last trip there was a problem with the dining plan losing our last day meal credits at check out instead of midnight, leaving 12 of my family members (actually in laws) scattered around the world without a meal on the last day.

My wife and kids were at a restaurant in AK, but the manager told me I had to go to guest services to work it out, so we separated, I had in-laws in other parks calling my wife because they were having trouble, etc...

Well Guest services was very nice but had some trouble getting a good fix, especially with not all of us at the same place, so I started to tear up and get upset. The CM kept trying to give me fastpasses to make me feel better, I certainly didn't ask for them and I even told her that was very nice of her but doesn't really address our hungry in-law problem, but I did appreciate she was trying to do what she could.

This is the reason I am surprised Disney allows CMs to use their discretion. For every "pixie dust" story there is at least one of these that leaves a bad impression of the company. Not arguing the policy, just doesn't make sense to me as, like I have stated, have seen people turned away several times.

I rarely cry. And I am completely confident that there are people who, after seeing this thread, will go to WDW and eek out a few crocodile tears to get free tickets.

But I know that there are people who will, genuinely, cry over things like Disney tickets and commercials and soggy spaghetti. Well, maybe not soggy spaghetti, but some people are very emotional.

Not everyone who cries is looking to get something for nothing. Some people just cry easily. :)
