I just received this from a friend:

Hey Carol - I did not know if Joel had told you or not - but thought you might want to know - his mom (MY FRIEND AND FORMER CO-WORKER) is having surgery on Tuesday to remove
a large mass they think originating from her left ovary - approximately 14inches long and 9-12 inches wide - her mother is coming to help her and will let us know on Tuesday after the surgery if it was cancerous or not - the surgeon doing the surgery is a gyn/oncologist - it sounds scary to me
but she said he did not feel any "ridges" when he examed her which is supposed to be a good thing - I just thought you would want to know - just in case Joel did not tell you or Jim - she said he refused to discuss the possibility of the "c" word as he put it - she is in good spirits but naturally concerned.

Can you keep them in your thoughts and send pixie dust?

Well, that is scary. Prayers for your friend that it is not cancer.

My best and prayers for your friend's mom, Carol. Hoping things go well after her surgery.

That sounds very scary. My prayers are with your friend and I hope that it is not cancer and that all goes well with her surgery.

Thank you for keeping her in your thoughts.
