Pixie Dust in Your Eye Hurts! -- Aug. 2010 -- update on 2/25: Epcot Photopass!

I hope I'm not too late to join in!

Great TR!

Of course not! :welcome: I'm glad you're enjoying it! As you can see, my two are a bit older than yours! :)

Loving the picture of you and your mom on Dumbo!! I adore looking at the "old" pictures from WDW! :goodvibes Cool Hidden Mickey! I took a picture of an oil stain in a parking lot one time that was totally a Mickey head and DH picked on me so bad I deleted it. Now I kick myself for letting him "get to me"!!! :rotfl2:

Actually, my boys found it on the rock this fall and came running to tell me, so DH can't make fun of it! :) I love the old pictures too -- it's funny how little has changed in some ways!

the rest of Friday morning, August 20, 2010

We wandered through Toontown and over to check out Buzz. The line wasn’t bad, so we rode yet again (and as usual, I’m sure DH won!) and decided to head over to Epcot. We had ADRs for the Garden Grill at the early hour of 4 something, so we figured we’d spend the afternoon there as well. We timed our departure just right (or just wrong!) and ran into the street party as we were leaving. I was amazed we were able to get so close to the curb!

We took the monorail to Epcot and the boys were able to get transportation cards! They each got a couple of different ones, so they were very pleased. Once we arrived at Epcot, we stopped (of course!) for more PhotoPass pictures. This one was a trainee, and some of her pictures showed it, but this one was pretty good!

We had lunch at the Electric Umbrella, sitting upstairs looking out. I still hadn’t recovered from the disappointments of the morning, and it didn’t help to discover that the turkey, bacon, and cheese sandwich that I enjoyed there so much last summer wasn’t on the menu anymore.

It was time to tour the second half of the World Showcase. Before we could get there, we had to stop so DS8 could take pictures of the signs -- he couldn’t wait for the real thing!

We started in Mexico, where DS8 really, really wanted to see the animal carvings. His art teacher always has a theme for the year, so he had just spent the year studying Mexican art. Outside the pyramid, who do we spot but the PhotoPass guy from Wednesday, Frank! I thought he looked familiar, but DH had caught his name and was sure. Not being ones to pass up a picture anyway, we had him take a shot or two, which he turned into a half dozen, telling us how to pose and what to do! I love this pose of the boys sitting on the railing. We thanked him and he told us he was in charge of covering that half of the World Showcase that afternoon and to keep an eye out for him. As you’ll see, we sure did!

This is a short installment as I want to start posting again more frequently and I’ve also got to figure out how Photo Bucket works again!

Your boys look so cute in Mexico!

Too bad about the sandwich being off the menu at Electric Umbrella. There may be something very tasty to eat at Electric Umbrella, but I'm sure I don't know what it is. :rotfl:

Thanks! I love some of those pictures Frank did. Wait until we get around to Italy! :)

Believe it or not, I think we might go again this August!!!!! I'd been looking at trips and mentioned to DH sometime earlier this week that Southwest had finally released the airfare for the dates we're looking at, but that it was going to be over $1200. Didn't he call me from work late yesterday afternoon and ask if I had checked the other major airport that we can get to easily! It turns out flights are $79 from there, meaning just over $750 total! I guess I've found out where his price point is! :rotfl:

Hi wlake and happy new year! I'm sorry that I got so behind but have had a fun morning reading your TR and now I'm finally caught up:thumbsup2

You got a great dumbo picture using that grounded one - don't think I've noticed that before. Plus what fantastic pictures outside Mexico?! I love it when FP photographers try different poses / settings - thumbs up for Frank!:thumbsup2

I love your comment about the rancid tea on the Tea Cups - That reminds of when we visited POTC and the ride was down. I asked the CM if it was "broken" and he said "no, we're just experiencing a technical mutiny"!

Plus great tip about avoiding that front seat on the Toontown train:headache: . I've never ridden that before so we are aiming to try it out on our next trip in May....I'll be wary and head for a seat further back!

Looking forward to your next update, and that's such exciting news about August!

That's so exciting!! :yay: It's so much fun when you decide to go back to WDW so much sooner than you thought you would.

Welcome back! I just can't seem to keep up with much anymore myself!

Wait until you see Frank's Italy pictures!

The CM's comment about POTC cracks me up! I think my computer was having one of those an hour or so ago! Those little things really add to WDW trips, don't they?

Plus great tip about avoiding that front seat on the Toontown train:headache: . I've never ridden that before so we are aiming to try it out on our next trip in May....I'll be wary and head for a seat further back!

We like riding the train around the park, but the back is the place for us from now on!

Looking forward to your next update, and that's such exciting news about August!

Bookstamper and PirateKate, our plans have changed a lot, but they're still exciting, perhaps even more so! DS8 is a real space nut, so we're going to spend two days at Kennedy Space Center. We'll spend only two nights at WDW and not get any park tickets, but...

WE'RE STAYING CLUB LEVEL AT THE YACHT CLUB!:banana::banana: (Not enough dancing bananas in the world for that!) We thought we'd round out our Kennedy trip with some time doing the non-park WDW things like mini-golf and DTD along with monorail and boat rides and stay at a value resort. Then somehow, DH decided we should stay at the YC and take advantage of Stormalong Bay. I'm not sure we'll leave the pool at all, but that's ok! When we finally went to book using the 40% off room only code, the only thing available was a water view. We decided to do it anyway -- at that point, what's another $100 or so? When I realized that club level was only another $80 and we can use it until midnight of our checkout day, it was easy to talk him into that!

We're not telling the boys until school gets out in June (or at least until after our DC trip), but I've floated the no park tickets idea to them. They're not excited, but we've got some time to build it up. I thought I'd be more bummed about it, but the idea of the YC has taken care of that! :)

continuing our tour of the other half of the World Showcase, Friday afternoon

We left Frank, promising (threatening?) to keep looking for him and went up and around to get inside the Mexico pavilion. We spent a LONG time looking at the carved wooden animals and watching the artists work on them. DS8 was fascinated!
IMG_1218.jpg

When we dragged him away into the marketplace area (wow, did the cool and dark in there feel good compared to the terrible heat outside! Even my eye felt a bit better in here.), we found Frank again! We asked him for a couple more pictures, and he ran around from stall to stall to find the props for these gems:

For some reason, we didn’t bother with the ride here in Mexico. I’m not entirely sure why, but it’s now on my list for our next trip. DS8 decided he really wanted to own one of those carved animals (but wow, were they out of his price range!), so we poked around for a bit until we found a ceramic parrot that looked just like carved wood. We didn’t want to buy it yet and carry it around all afternoon (and shipping it to the resort wasn’t something DS was interested in), so we promised to zip through Mexico again on our way out of the park. It was loud in there, so we decided to head back out into the heat and the sunshine over to Norway.

In Norway, there wasn’t a long ride for the ride, so I convinced DS8 to ride with me. While I really liked the cool and dark (seeing a theme here for me?), he didn’t like it at all. I don’t think he’ll do that again! While we were riding, DH and DS5 found a marachai (spelling?) band to enjoy. There are also a zillion pictures of the boats going around the lagoon, so I’m guessing they found those entertaining too!

Our next stop was China, where we found Frank again! We waited a couple of minutes for our turn here, but again it was well worth it. I love this one of the four of us (don’t we look happy?) and he got more hats for the boys to wear!

We enjoyed looking around the gardens here and spent forever looking at the panda things in the gift shop. A good friend of DS8’s had brought him a souvenir from her Washington DC trip, and he wanted to take her something from Disney. Evidently, she loved the pandas in DC, so he finally decided on a small stuffed panda keychain. Since we skip all of the movies here in the pavilions, it usually doesn’t take too long to look around and move on. I’m regretting that now, because I had wanted to see the terra-cotta warriors here in China, and I forgot all about them until weeks after I got home. Something else to add to the next trip wish list!

The next stop was Germany, but we had to walk though the African outpost to get there. I was simply plowing on, thinking about perhaps getting some German chocolate to snack on, but DH was paying attention to the outpost and saw that they sold frozen Cokes! I abandoned my family and hopped in line! That drink cheered me up more than you can ever imagine!

I had my soda, so I was happy, but we got some chocolate in Germany for the boys. They ate it up so quickly that it didn’t melt all over them! We spent even more time with the trains which is really the only part of Germany they care about.

The next stop has a ton of pictures, so I think I’m going to break it up here!

still Friday but over to Italy

Then it was over to Italy, where Frank was ready and waiting for us! (Not really, but it seemed that way!) If I thought he had a good time taking our photos in Mexico, that was nothing compared to Italy! He literally ran around and posed us here, there and everywhere. It was like having a private photographer. I just counted, and he took 23 shots of us in 5 different spots!

We were so blown away by the picture taking session that we just wandered right out of Italy afterwards, without realizing it!

Wow, you guys got some great pictures! I'm going to try and remember to look for Frank in Epcot. I love the magic shot with the balloons. It's nice that he did it twice so they both got to be the one with the balloons. And the one with the boys posing by the fountain is so cute!

Yacht Club Club Level sounds so cool! I don't think you would really need park tickets with a resort that good. All the extra pool time at SAB will be great. :thumbsup2

What great pictures at Epcot!! I really need to look for more PP photographers at Epcot.

Yacht Club Club Level sounds awesome!! I could deal with that even if I didn't get to go into a park! I could see fireworks if I wanted and it would make it seem like I was in a park!!

Evidently there are usually two photographers covering the World Showcase, one to each half. Frank said he tends to hang out in Italy, and we saw another one on the bridge by France (she took our picture with France in the background). All of the PP photographers offered to take pictures with each boy holding the balloons/Tinkerbell/Simba. Is that great of them?

5 months until Stormalong Bay!!!

That's just how I feel about it now that I've gotten used to the idea! I'd like to get over and see the Electric Water Pagent (spelling?) one night too.

Oh my goodness, I am so far behind. I am so very sorry. Life has gotten in the way. In the next few days, I promise, I really do enjoy reading every moment of your trip report!!!

This isn't really an update, but I'm planning yet another WDW trip! After 4 coworkers came back after February break talking about running the Princess Half Marathon, I decided I could do it! I know I'm not a princess fan and I'm really, really not a runner, but I started training last week and I'm going to do this. My mom is 100% behind me (my DH watched me eat ice cream while googling "how to run a half marathon" for a week, so he's still a bit skeptical, but I understand). Anyone want to run (walk really fast) with me? :)

Oh my, I missed quite the picture extravaganza! I thought we had good photopass pictures on our trip, but your pictures are SO amazing. I would pay twice as much for photopass to get pictures like that. What a great photographer! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the italy pictures, but all the pictures are great. It sounds like a lot of fun!

Your trip sounds like it will be fun. With the pool and the fireworks and the boardwalk...you'll be fine without park tickets.

And the half marathon? Wow! I am SO not a runner, so that is nothing I would even contemplate, but really, good for you! I'm sure you'll do great!

Nice World Showcase update- wow, you really did have your own personal photographer. How cool! Great pictures of the kids and the family, but I love the ones in Italy of you and your husband.

So, your DC trip is right around the corner. Very exciting!

And I am thrilled to hear about your planned trip to the Yacht Club! Definitely checkout the Yacht and Beach Club FAQ forum- follow the link in my signature. It is a really fun, friendly, welcoming thread, if I do say so myself!

I've been so MIA! Your photos are the best! I actually decided something similar. I'm going to try to be able to run a 5K by next year to do the Expedition Everest Challenge and then work on getting to the Princess Half Marathon by 2013. I really hate running since I was forced to do cross country in HS. I'm so jealous of you being at the Yacht Club!

I have mulled over doing the half marathon. I used to run a lot and my knees started bothering me so I gave ti up for awhile. I have worked up to walkign fast with short running jaunts!
