I have a question. What exactly is the relationship between Pixar and Disney? I keep reading other posts about how well Disney movies are doing this summer, but then others say things like Finding Nemo doesn't count cause it's Pixar, not Disney. Are all the Pixar movies just distributed by Disney? Is Disney involved at all in the creative process of the film, or is all the writing and such done only by Pixar? Is Nemo a Disney film, a Pixar film, or both? I'm just really confused by this. Oh, also I thought the next Pixar/Disney movie was one called Cars or something like that, but then I saw the trailer for The Incredibles. Is there a movie called Cars coming out anytime soon- or did I just imagine that? Thanks for the info!

Disney has a distribution deal, but it's a little more complicated than that. The animators, story people, etc. work for Pixar, not Disney. However, early in the relationship Disney's story department, animators mentored the Pixar people closely. Toy Story was a much more mutal effort between the Disney organization and Pixar, Disney had a lot of input, but the role Disney has played keeps decreasing.. The relationship is very much a parent/child one. As kids grow up, the more the learn, the less dependant they become on the parents, until one day they are prepared enough to leave the nest. And that's basically where Pixar is right now. Are they strong enough to move out of the house and on their own, or do they want Dad to pay for a few more years of college first?

Incredibles is the next Pixar film which comes out in 2004. Cars is the one after that.

Apparently, Disney and Pixar were real tight under their first agreement and aren't so much any more under the current agreement. Here is some info from Pixar itself (strangely enough not updated to include Nemo): http://www.pixar.com/companyinfo/aboutus/

It seems that lately, Pixar has done all of the creative work while Disney had handled the distribution but it's interesting that they worked together in the beginning as Hope said. It'll be even more interesting to see where they go next.
