Hi everyone...just got a call from the school I did my student teaching with and they have a TA position available in a Kindergarten classroom...and they want to interview me!!
Remember that pity party I threw for myself because they didn't call me for the head teacher position? Well, I have since found out that the teacher they hired for that one is the daughter of two retired teachers from the district and went to school there herself...at least I now know that they had her in mind all along for the job!
Now I just hope I can get my foot in the door with this position...haven't told anyone other than my DH because I don't want to jinx it...but I just had to tell you all since you made my pity party such a success!
I'll let you know what happens!

a foot in the door is indeed a plus! Good luck!

Pity Parties are great...especially when you throw them for yourself..and they turn out successful:p

I usually go by myself when I feel the need for one....they do work, and you are a perfect example...good luck with the interview::yes::

Didn't I tell you!!!!!!::yes::

And it was also because you're too pretty - and smart - and they were jealous!

Aunt Polly,
I love your sense of humor! Thanks for making me smile when I was down and once again when I am feeling better!

If the TA position doesn't pan out I would substitute. You will get a lot of experience and the principals will really notice you if you do a good job. You will also see different elementary schools and how they are run. Every school has a different climate. Some are cold, some friendly and some are down right fun.

My only concern with taking the TA position is getting stuck there for several years without advancement. I would only take it if I had to have the insurance.

Good luck,

Lori

Lori,
That is my continual struggle...I eventually want a job with this particular district, so I am inclined to want to take anything they will give me. I have been a substitute there and had resigned myself to continue substituting at other districts as well this year. There are some who tell me to try to get a TA position as my way in...and others who have echoed your sentiments and say that substituting is the better way to go. I don't have to make the decision just yet (as I have not officially even been offered the TA position), so if and when the time comes, I will have to do some quick, deep thinking! Thank you for your encouragement and advice!

Amy

I know how you feel...I just got offered a teaching position yesterday, so I hope you got something today.... Have you ever considered private school? I know the pay can be less, but usually after a year or two they seem to be able to find a position in a public school....wishing you the best!!!!

Good luck. Hope the interview goes well.

Hi guys! I had my interview today and it went very, very well. The assistant principal interviewed me and at the end said I will be going on to the next step in the process for the job. He will call me by the middle of next week to let me know the time and date of the next interview with the Superintendent and the 1st grade teachers.
I found out during the interview that the school has a 1st grade TA position open and a pre-k TA position open due to the 1st grade teacher being hired to head up a kindergarten classroom and the other TA left to spend more time with her kids!!
I'm so excited and grateful to all of you who gave me encouragement and laughs (esp. you, AuntPolly, for the laughs!)
Thank you, thank you, thank you for helping me to believe in myself!!
I'll keep you all updated on what happens!
Amy
