Well I was walking out the door this morning to go to work. I just had all of my carpets taken up 6 months ago as I now have COPD and the Doc said "out with your carpets and your drapes". So like the dutiful little patient, out they went. Fortunately, I am doing much better since they were taken out, but I digress. Last night we give my dog a smaller flat bone. She decided to play with it and not eat it. I come walking out of the kitchen, don't see the bone, step on the bone and go flying across the LR. I land on my left knee, leg and ankle. Well, I was just like the lady in the commercial "I have fallen and I can't get up." I am no longer a skinny little thing, in fact in most people's worlds (including my own) I need to drop more than a few pounds. So there I am sitting on the floor, in terrible pain and no one is around. My dog (an 85 pound Belgian Shepherd) realizes something is wrong and decides to protect me from whatever is making me cry, by walking all over my left leg. Of course the more I tell her to move, the more she moves into protect.
I scoot over to the sofa where my phone is sitting and call the DH. Luckily he isn't that far from home so he turns around and comes back. Between the two of us, I am able to get into a chair. I get up to go change my clothes and realize, yup it hurts pretty bad. So DH carts me off to the ER. I have a fractured ankle bone. they can't cast it today as the swelling needs to go down so we make an appoint with the Orthoped tomorrow. Now tomorrow is the day that we are supposedly leaving Philly at 7:00 a.m. to pick up Mom in Ogden and then we head down to Richmond to help my Nephew celebrate the news that he is going to be promoted to Major. So I still think I am going to go to the Doctor, get my ankle set and then head down to VA. Well, my dear friends (people who have had ankle breaks, a doctor friend, 2 nurses and a hockey mom (not Sara) laugh at me when I tell them I will be going to VA tomorrow. So, instead I am going to sit around the house tomorrow and throw myself a Pity Party. The good news is, as long as the pain isn't too, too bad, I can sit at the computer and do DISigns this weekend.
So every cloud has a silver lining.
Ok, party over, back to realizing how luck I am, it could have been much worse, I could have broken something that needed surgery, the phone could have been in a place I couldn't reach, etc., etc., etc. So as usual, I realize that I am truly a very lucky person, who is blessed.
