Well I was walking out the door this morning to go to work. I just had all of my carpets taken up 6 months ago as I now have COPD and the Doc said "out with your carpets and your drapes". So like the dutiful little patient, out they went. Fortunately, I am doing much better since they were taken out, but I digress. Last night we give my dog a smaller flat bone. She decided to play with it and not eat it. I come walking out of the kitchen, don't see the bone, step on the bone and go flying across the LR. I land on my left knee, leg and ankle. Well, I was just like the lady in the commercial "I have fallen and I can't get up." I am no longer a skinny little thing, in fact in most people's worlds (including my own) I need to drop more than a few pounds. So there I am sitting on the floor, in terrible pain and no one is around. My dog (an 85 pound Belgian Shepherd) realizes something is wrong and decides to protect me from whatever is making me cry, by walking all over my left leg. Of course the more I tell her to move, the more she moves into protect. :headache: I scoot over to the sofa where my phone is sitting and call the DH. Luckily he isn't that far from home so he turns around and comes back. Between the two of us, I am able to get into a chair. I get up to go change my clothes and realize, yup it hurts pretty bad. So DH carts me off to the ER. I have a fractured ankle bone. they can't cast it today as the swelling needs to go down so we make an appoint with the Orthoped tomorrow. Now tomorrow is the day that we are supposedly leaving Philly at 7:00 a.m. to pick up Mom in Ogden and then we head down to Richmond to help my Nephew celebrate the news that he is going to be promoted to Major. So I still think I am going to go to the Doctor, get my ankle set and then head down to VA. Well, my dear friends (people who have had ankle breaks, a doctor friend, 2 nurses and a hockey mom (not Sara) laugh at me when I tell them I will be going to VA tomorrow. So, instead I am going to sit around the house tomorrow and throw myself a Pity Party. The good news is, as long as the pain isn't too, too bad, I can sit at the computer and do DISigns this weekend.:dance3: So every cloud has a silver lining. :cheer2:
Ok, party over, back to realizing how luck I am, it could have been much worse, I could have broken something that needed surgery, the phone could have been in a place I couldn't reach, etc., etc., etc. So as usual, I realize that I am truly a very lucky person, who is blessed. :yay: :lovestruc :woohoo:

I wouldn't cancel your trip yet, maybe you can play it by ear, take something for the pain, grab a pair of crutches and off you can go. Good luck, I broke my ankle several years back with a 4 y.o and a 10 month old, it was fun, you do what you need to do, take care of yourself and hope you heal soon. You have a great attitude in realizing how lucky you are and how much worse it could have been, that is nice to see.

Aww! Penny! Sorry to hear but it could mean a sign for some much needed rest! Hopefully you can still see your nephew get promoted- The ceremonies they put on are really nice to see- If not, like you said, grab a couple pillows, a drink, your 'puter and DIS! LOL No joking matter, I know but thankfully it is not as bad as it could have been and at least you weren't headed to Disney- :scared1: Get better- start to heal and hope you'll be up and around in no time- see if they will give you a walking cast or a shoe boot- it will at least help ya get around

Oh dear Penny
Hope you soon feel much better.
If you have to stay at home, your families' great loss will be our gain as I'm sure we'll see some great DISigns come out of it!!!
I really send you all my love and lots of pixiedust for a speedy recovery.
Hugs as always
Joanne

Thanks so much for the good wishes. & the good news is I don't have a 4 year old and 10 month old to take care of. In fact the DH is taking care of me. Once it is casted I will be able to put weight on it I hope. Now that I read it, I am sorry I posted because a broken ankle is pretty insignficant compared to some of the things that people have thrown at them. However, last night I took my percocet like a good little patient, which wasn't very smart on my end.:rolleyes1 I don't do drugs very well and even on a 1/2 of percocet I was flying high.:scared: So they have now been banished to the back of medicine cabinet.
I am lucky, it could have been much worse and everything will be over with in time for my trip to Disney on 11/29. :woohoo: :yay: :dance3:  So now I am going to try and catch up on what I missed yesterday and hopefully be productive later today. I have about 5 autograph cards that still aren't done so that's my goal this weekend. again, thanks for the kind words. Penny:hippie:

Oh Penny - poor you. It sounds painful. Like you say, at least you will be OK for your next trip and more time for DISigning!! Maybe you should treat yourself to the tickets for MVMCP now to cheer yourself up! Hope you are feeling better soon and don't work too hard on the computer!

Penny,
I am sorry to hear this. I hope you are feeling better soon. I can imagine the disappointment your feeling about your trip. Sending Pixie dust your way for a speedy recovery. pixiedust:

Oh MY!!!!

Sending you warm vibes for a quick healing. And, although you had problems with the percocet, don't deny yourself pain meds if you need them! Tell the doctor about your side effects (flying high) and see if he can lower the dose even more or prescribe/suggest an alternative! There is no reason to hurt or to "fly high"!

Oh Penny

I hope your ankle heals soon, I'm so sorry this happened to you . Take care of yourself .

Here's to hoping you can still make the promotion!

O Penny you poor thing what bad timing, like you said at least you have an excuse to laze around and maybe work on some disigns! Maybe that will make you feel better, and I along with the other poster really hope you might be able to find a way to see your Nephews promotion! Get well soon:hug:

I decided to try the 1/2 percocet today after coming home from the Orthopedic guy. They casted me (Kelly Green for the DisBoard and DH's last name Kelly) and had to go up the steps again on my back side so I was a sore pup when I got home. I ate first and drank some milk so the side effects weren't quite as bad. THanks for the good thoughts. :goodvibes

Oh Penny

I decided that it was best I stay home so DH has been waiting on me and I will see them in a few weeks anyway. Thanks for the kind words

My Sister promised to take lots of pictures (and she picked up my Mom so she still got to go). I am not able to go back to work until Tuesday so here's hoping I get some DISigns done. :rolleyes1

THanks everyone, as I said I am very lucky. two years ago my mom fell and she broke her neck and need a Halo for 3 months. I really shouldn't whine about a broken ankle. In the long run, I am lucky. :cloud9:

Penny!
I missed all of your action while I was away! I'm so sorry that you're broken!!!! I just want to jump in the car and drive down and give you a BIG HUG!!!! (I probably could make it in about 1 1/2 hours............ & show up with some Hershey Kisses!!!) I'm so sorry about you missing your trip. Hopefully soemone has has a video camera so you won't miss a moment of the hooplah! Get lots and lots of rest so you can heal quickly and thoroughly!

Thanks everyone. The best news is that I have been able to hang out on the DIS BOards for hours at a time. Something I have never been able to do. :cool1: Thought the Doctor did banish me to the bedroom so most of the time I can read, but trying to use the mouse in the bed is not an easy thing to do.:rolleyes1
I am very lucky when I think of all the things I could have broken. Big Mar (my 81 year Mother's nick name) broke her neck two years ago. Now that was a real problem. So I am lucky and blessed. :goodvibes
