Pittsburgh's Best Restaurant?

Looking for recomendations for interesting ethnic places to eat in the " burgh"!

DH and I are having a "staycation" for a couple of days while the kids are at my folks. We want to check out some cool ethnic restaurants in town - went to Abay for Ethiopian food last night.

I once saw Primanti Brothers on the Travel Channel. My next visit, I only live about 3 hours away, will include this restaurant. My best friend is origionally from the Pittsburg area, has eaten here, and recommends it. It is a very casual bar and grill.

Primantis is a Pittsburgh Classic! There are several locations, though the one in the Strip District is the original.

As far as nice restaurants go, I'll be watching this thread with interest. It's been a long time since we've eaten anywhere "not casual" in Pittsburgh, so I can't recommend a place.

DiBlasio's is an Italian place in Scott Twp (off of Greentree Road). Their chicken diblasio is their own little version of chicken marsala and is really yummy.

Mullaney's Harp & Fiddle is an Irish pub in the Strip District. Great Irish food and music.

Head over to the Southside and you'll find a place for just about anything that you're craving.

And yep Primanti's is always a good bet for any kind of sandwich you want stacked with fries and slaw.

Thanks! A trip to the strip district is in the plans for tomorrow (we've lived here for four years and never gone!) and this sounds like a great lunch idea!

I saw this thread and instantly thought of DiBlasio's. It has a very romantic atmosphere too And yummy Mancini bread too.

I haven't been there in years though. When your a single mom with zero love life, it's mostly been McDonalds, Chipotle Grill, and Olive Garden.

OT - When the weather warms up - your kids might also enjoy the Strip. We used to take our boys on Saturdays and browse. Wholey's is an experience all in itself and there's an old fashioned ice cream parlor - Klavons - that is neat to visit (and tasty too).

Have you ever been to Armstrong's in Moon Twp? I guess it would be more like Italian/American and the portions are HUGE. It's very casual and kid friendly and IMHO they have the BEST steak salads there.

If you're at all interested in beer, I'd recommend Fat Head's on the Southside (over 40 beers on tap) or The Sharp Edge in Friendship (great Belgiums). Wonderful beers and good bar food. Fat Head's has great pierogis and very good sandwiches at a good price.

Do you like Sushi? Nakama on Murray Ave. in Squirrel Hill is a great choice. If you're looking for a burger, Tessaro's on Liberty Avenue in Bloomfield is your place.

If you are going to the Strip...Lydia's has awesome Italian food.

In the South Side, Mayorca is a spanish restaurant and is very good.


There is a little restaurant in Springdale that serves German food that it supposed to be excellent. Everyone I know who has eaten there loves it...but I'm not a big fan of German food so I've never tried it.

I didn't know that this place was still open! My parents love this restaurant. It's been about 20+ years since we've dined there, so I can't recommend it from firsthand experience though I do know my parents enjoy eating here.

We had Ethiopian a couple of nights ago in New York and I'd never had it before. It was so good!!! We went to Queen of Sheba if any of you New Yorkers want a great CHEAP restaurant!!!

With that said, we love Umi which is a Japanese place in Shadyside. We also love Le Pommier for French food. It is located in the South Side on Carson Street at 21st street intersection.

OMG!!! You are the only person I have ever heard say that. We love Primanti's even the kiddos.

That said, we don't venture out too much to the city for dinner, but I'd try Primanti's if you got a chance.

I have been to Armstrongs, I couldn't remember the name of that place when I was posting to this thread last night. Very good Italian food. Do they still let you bring your own alcohol?

I think you mean Walnut Street, in the shopping area. Unfortunately, Cozumel closed sometime ago. The space is vacant at the moment.

I know its a chain, but I love the Melting Pot. It is at Station Square and if it is a nice night, it is really nice walking outside after dainner, in the courtyard where Hard Rock and Bar Louie are.
