I searched and didn't find the answer... when did they take out the double drop in Pirates??

Disneyland's Pirates has the double drop. Disneyland's Pirates is a far superior ride to Disneyworld's. I am from the West Coast (Victoria, BC) originally so Disneyland was were we went. I live in Ottawa now, so Disney World is more convenient to travel to, but I have to admit that Disneyland is still by far my favourite park.

?? There is one drop on Pirates, right after the skeleton steering the ship scene. It is thee, the same as always. Just rode it Easter week.

I enjoy Pirates at WDW, but it is not close to the ride at DL.
And Disneyland has the 2 drops, WDW has always just had the one.

Yes, you're thinking of Disneyland. They actually did not intend to build Pirates in the Magic Kingdom, however after hearing form guests who wanted the iconic attraction, they decided to build a version of it in the smaller space that was available. Most things at WDW have more room than at DL, but Pirates is the exception.

I don't bother to ride certain attractions at WDW as I think they are far better in DLR. Pirates is one, and Space Mountain is the other. Space Mt in Disneyland is faster, and has a better vehicle (easier for my old bones to get in and out of).

Disneyland Paris also has the drops.

Personally since pirates is one of the rides that you can take little ones on, I like the quiet, less scary Pirates @ WDW...

The utilidor level at MK, along with the high water table, made it difficult to put anything far below entry level, the way it’s done at DL. That’s the same reason the stretching room in the Haunted Mansion isn’t an elevator down, the way it is at DL. Presumably they didn’t like the idea of a lift ramp at the start of the ride, like Splash Mountain, nor the idea of making people climb up a flight or two just to experience the drop. Obviously there had to be some drop to keep the water flowing, but not nearly as much as at DL.

Same here. We do not do Space Mountain at all at MK anymore. Just not worth it to us. We do Pirates only if we are killing some time or if the line is short. Otherwise, it is ridden at DL only.

But its DL that has the cool quiet part! That's what's better, the long, quiet, winding section with the caverns.

At WDW you slide down and get thrown out right into the middle of the battle. :)

Took a one year old to WDW and loved Pirates. For sure a kiddie ride there compared to DL.

I’m clearly in the minority on this, but I honestly don’t think the DL version is “vastly superior” to the WDW one. Granted I’ve only been to DL once, but I was ready for a completely different ride based on those kinds of comments, and there was really only one scene (where they are shooting back and forth over your boat) that really jumped out at me. The Blue Bayou part is neat for the restaurant goers, but I don’t think it adds to the ride like it does in the Mexico boat ride at Epcot. And yes, the drop is bigger. But the WDW queue is much more immersive and really gets me “away” to that place by the time I board my boat. And I love Jack Sparrow in the ride. I personally consider it a wash.

I am in agreement that the DL pirates is better than the WDW pirates (same with Space Mountain). I like the slow part at the beginning and the 2 drops! I am pretty excited bc we are going back to DL next February after 5 years!

Queue hands down better at WDW completely agree but both my husband and I enjoy DLR's version much more and that's only having been to DLR one time as well and more times at WDW.

Watch an on ride POV of both because there's actually quite a lot of differences IMO. Also there's 2 drops close together at DL and 1 drop at WDW.
