Pirates of the Carribean

It's a boat ride. One drop in the dark that's not too big. Mainly just a slow ride through viewing the animatronics pillaging and plundering. It's a great ride, 9 yr olds included

It's a ride. You sit in a boat and it takes you through various humorous scenes of pirates. It's the best animatronics in the park, in my opinion. A nine year old boy would enjoy it.

If you want to see the ride, or other attractions, you can search them on youtube. Many people have posted complete rides throughs on the site.

We took a 4 year old and she loved it. Your 9 year old will love it - especially if it is a hot day - it is cool in the ride!

My three year old loves it. It was one of my favorites when I was nine and still is at 30.

I'm 36 now and riding Pirates for the first time at 8 years old it still one of my fondest WDW memories. Have a blast!

Thank you. I'll put it on the list for my DS9. I actually almost missed this one but sounds like he'll like it (can't watch teh video at the moment as I'm at work, but will look later). I think I'll skip it for my DD5 though.

It's not remotely scary. I would take both your kids. DS4 is a scaredy cat and loves the ride.

Don't skip it for your daughter! It's not scary at all. It's a fun comical ride with lots of music and singing and silly pirates. And Jack Sparrow! My kids have been riding since they were tiny and have never found anything scary in there.

I'm not sure why you would skip it for your 5 year old. As others have says it isn't scary and has only a very small drop. We gave gone every year since my youngest was 1 (she's 9) and have never skipped it.

My absolute favorite ride in Disney. (Well it ties with the Haunted Mansion.)

I think the first couple of seconds n the ride is mildly intimidating as it is kind of dark and you are going through a cave. Nothing pops out of scares you though. Once you are in the big scene with the ships it is amazing! I think both kids will love it!

This is my kids' favorite ride! It's not height restricted and my youngest rode it before he was 2 with no problems! I'd never have a 5 year old skip it if they hadn't experienced it at least once!

Another thing both your kids might enjoy is Captain Jack's Pirate Tutorial, which takes place in Adventureland across from POTC. I recommend the first show of the day so that you have the benefit of some shade/lower temps and crowds tend to be lighter so your kid has a better chance at being selected to get on stage.

Your 9 year old should be fine. If you guys can make it to after the parade / fireworks then the line is usually non-existent. We went after the fireworks show last July it no wait at all!

It's like It's a Small World...with Pirates and one tiny drop. :) Great ride...it, along with the Haunted Mansion are among my all time favorites.

My kids have been riding this since they were 1 and have always loved it! We are just back from WDW and my 6 year old niece (who was afraid in Great Movie Ride and Living with the Land) was ok on Pirates.

Thank you for all the responses.

Definitely will put it on DS9 list.
We will try and do attractions together but there are times when we will need to split up (e.g. when DD at Bibbiti Bobbiti Boutique or DS at bigger rides) and this one seemed like a better boy fit, if looking for something for him. I won't exclude it for DD5 though...good to know. Will just see how the schedule falls.

Can safely say it appeals to 5 year old's (my DD last year) to 65+ people (my parents). So much more than just a ride. The animatronics are great, and c'mon, Captain Jack Sparrow!

And boy do those animatronics look exactly like Johnny Depp.
