AKA, the captain's chair. Sorry if this has been discussed before. Why have they closed row six? That was always my favorite place to sit, as I'm usually just a party of two, and row six ensured that I wouldn't be squished with others. They haven't been loading it for a while now, whats up with that?

Didn't someone sitting in the back row stick his hand in the water and somehow lose a finger?

I think it's because if the accident where a guest lost their fingertips. I don't remember the exact details of the accident, but I think its one of the changes they made due to that incident.

I hadn't heard about the little boy. Weird how that ride's been there for what 40 years, and now there's been two accidents back to back.

They got new boats. Another feature of the new boats is the front row gets splashed pretty good, I experienced that last month. When I was sitting there, I watched where the boats come together at the end, I don't see how someone could have got their hands down far enough to get pinched between the boats, especially a child. The bumper is pretty far down. It must have happened some other way.

Wouldn't closing off one row (and instantly reducing the ride's capacity) cause the lines at the ride to be a little longer?

My fingertips have all led good, long lives. If one of them were to die a hero on Stitch, perhaps it could lead to change.

I somehow missed that the back row was where the person was sitting. ((shivver))

Another factor contributing to longer waits at Pirates is the fact that the last row of every boat is roped off. You may remember Disney replaced the fiberglass boats with plastic boats not so long ago. That has created some problems with how weight is distributed. While you might expect that to affect daily throughput substantially, cast members have instead been stuffing the other rows full. As a single rider, I would almost always be put in the back row by myself. Now they stick me in a row with two or three other people, much to their disamusement (not a word). Maybe if they knew how big of a deal I am.

So people in the front row now get soaked and Disney's answer is to not load the back row making the boat even more bow heavy which will plow even more water into the front row. Who "engineered" this change? :rotfl2: If I wanted to get soaked I'd ride Splash Mountain.

I guess they figured better that some people get a little wet than that some people lose their fingers.

Same reason for the lap bars at Splash Mountain. One dummy, solution waaaay too much.

I also read that the front row gets pretty wet now, and when we were there two weeks ago, we got put in the front row. The seat and floor were wet so I prepared myself to get wet too. We didn't even get one drop wet. It was a cool evening and I read that Disney scales back water features on certain rides when it's cold out, so not sure if this is what happened here, but I was relieved!
