My DS is 7 1/2 and he has been asking me to see Pirates: Curse of the Black Pearl. I've never watched it, so I don't know anything about it. I've looked online a little bit, but I thought that maybe my best bet would be some other parents opinions.

Do you think it would be too much for him? Are there definitely parts that he shouldn't see? I know it's PG-13, and he's never seen anything past PG, so that makes me a little unsure...but the whole Pirate theme seems so geared toward boys that I just don't know!

Thanks for any opinions. :goodvibes

why dont you watch it forst and see if you think he would like it?

my kids have all seen it. dd8,ds4 and ds2. theyve actually seen all 3 of them.
there were some parts that were maybe a bit creapy, but not scary and yes there is violence in it, but its comic book violence.

i guees i would think if you arent sure just watch it first.

Definitely watch it first. We started letting DS watch it at 3. The Pirates ride at Disneyland still sometimes spooks him, but he can watch those cursed pirates (in moonlight they turn to skeletons) all day without a problem or nightmare. Just before he turned 4 he talked us into POTC2, and then soon after (b/c it's a less scary movie than #2, in our opinion) he watched POTC3. He LOVES them.

Now there are parts that, b/c we are so familiar with the movies, we have him turn away for. Luckily b/c we rarely have him do that, he knows we're serious. So in POTC2 after the opening scene, there's an AWFUL scene at a prison. I won't even watch it, so DS turns his back and we look at each other until I can see out of the corner of my eye that the nasty parts are over, and he can turn back around. And in the 3rd movie, DS doesn't watch until they start singing (if you see it you'll understand why).

What other movies has he seen? Other than POTC, most of DS's other movies are the Pixar movies and various Disney films. In fact that might be it, LOL, except for when DH thought it was a good idea to let him watch Dodgeball (ach, the language! the behaviour problems!). Oh, he's also watched Star Wars 4, 5, and 6 (when he was younger those gave DS behaviour problems too, so we had to stop watching them and wait until he was almost 4 to start again, and he handles them much better).

Once your DS gets into Jack Sparrow, if he's a kid that dresses up, be prepared to take lots of pictures. :)
