Pirates attack cruise ship....no lie!!!

I was just about to post that! Good thing they (the cruise ship) got away.

I didn't even know pirates still existed! I just thought that the only pirates left were the ones on the ride in WDW and DL.

You're not akidding!!! But Johnny Depp, that pirate can take over my cruise ship anytime!!!

Pirates attack, or attempt to attack smaller luxury yachts on a fairly regular basis in certain parts of the world. Usually they just rob and run. Sometimes, sadly, they harm, kill, or set a fire to cover their crime. Why they thought they could outrun a cruise ship and actually board it is beyond me, especially with heightened Cruise Line security nowdays. Very bizarre story!

Wow, pirates is never a danger I considered when taking a cruise!

My son is a pirate FANATIC so of course I mentioned this while I was reading the page on AOL. This was the highlight of his day LOL. He said all seriously "Mom, if I was on the ship, I would have fired back!!" Then he ran downstairs to tell my sister and she thought he was making it up. It was just too cute :flower:

Piracy is still very active in many parts of the world. They mostly prey on merchant marine ships shipping cargo; they can get a couple of hundred thousand dollars just by running up to a ship in the middle of the night and breaking open a cargo container; or by killing the crew on a ship crewed by only 5-10 people.

It's still very common in many parts of the world.

My parents are in Singapore now and tomorrow (or actually proabably in a few hours their time) they are getting on a ship that will take them on a 30 day voyage through the pacific. I hope they don't run into anything like this.

It makes the notion of pirates a lot less romantic, doesn't it? I've read about several incidents in recent years of families that are attacked when they sail too closely to dangerous areas. Remember a couple of years ago when a young boy was shot by pirates attempting to board his parents boat while they were on an extended sailing trip and they were desperately trying to get him to medical care? I don't remember how that turned out but I don't believe the boy lived.

that is almost exactly what I was going to say. ;)

When I read the title, I thought this was going to be a funny post. Wow! Who knew? :confused3 :scared1: :scared1:

Seaborne Cruise Lines is the "top of the line" luxury cruise line. I can't imagine that the pirates thought that they could board a ship like that but they must have had a plan. Glad it was thwarted.

Did they break the "Window's"? :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I heard that on the news as well, also about a month ago their was show on just this happening! It has been going on, but with smaller private boats! But cruise ships. yikes! :earseek:

It's funny because things turned out fine but if they were able to board, it would have been a horrendous tragedy.
