Because of the cost of IMAX, I want to be sure it's a good choice for our family. My son & I experienced IMAX for the first time while on his field trip to Harrisburg 2 weeks ago. We saw Flights of Wonder, which was about 40 minutes long.

It was UNBELIEVABLE! The experience was so cool that I am dying to go agsin & take the whole gang. But I have reservations about seeing a 2+ hour long movie in that format, seems almost that it would be 'too much' to handle. If you've seen an Imax film, then you know what I mean. On the other hand if they did the movie right.... It could be amazing!

I have one other concern, sometimes you pay for 3D and then the movie only has a few scenes that give you the 3D feel. Is there any chance that a Hollywood movie like Pirates won't really do the Imax part justice and only dissapoint in the end?

Yes, I know this is long and rambling.... Sorry!
So, anyone have the inside scoop???

When we go to the theater to see a movie we try to see it in IMAX, 3D or not, IMAX is simply the best. We saw Fast Five 2 on IMAX, amazing!! We saw the Star Trek movie 3 times....not all on IMAX, we did 1 IMAX, 1 "digital" and 1 "standard", we couldn't tell the difference between digital and standard but we sure did on IMAX!!! 3D used to always give me headaches but we saw Avatar in 3D (the whole movie was 3D) and I had NO problems at all. Movies are so much better now then they used to be....and yes, I want to see Pirates on IMAX as well. :)

Wow, your reply makes me realize that the movie may not be in 3D. I feel like an idiot butI sort of assumed all imax movies were 3D. IS this movie going to be in 3D? If not...I'm not sure it would be worth it.

You can see P4 in 3D but no, not all IMAX movies are 3D. :)

Rather than 3D, or massive special effects, I would rather have plot, good dialog and character building…
3D is a gimmick and I think it distracts from the movie, they are writing scenes around it and they all seem to stick out (of the movie plot lines).

You may want to wait a bit to hear the general scuttlebutt when the movie is released. It's gotten some terrible reviews.

I saw P4 in 3D (not IMAX) and it was horrible. The sharpness and color was lost in the 3D translation. I have a clear picture on my HD tv at home of commericals. It also doesn't have any real 3D effects that need to seen in 3D.

I will pay to see it in regular format so that I can see the picture in sharper format.

I've seen P4 already, but didn't think the sharpness and color were horrible in 3D. Maybe I was just too excited because I got to see it early?? I'll be seeing it again midnight tomorrow and was going to choose IMAX, but that would have involved going to a theater farther way. Since I'm still going into work on Friday, I chose not to travel to the IMAX theater.

I do agree that there is very little 3D in it, and if you are deciding whether or not to pay more for 3D, then skip it.

Trying to decide if we want to see it in IMAX 3d for $17.50 pp or Disney 3-d for $11.50 pp or regular didgital for $7.50 pp.

I don't see a non-3D IMax version of Pirates 4 in our market, but you do want to check. We do have 3D and non-3D DLP standard-screen versions out there, as well as 3D and non-3D DLP Mega Screen versions, and a non-3D optical projection standard-screen version.
