I recently read about the Jedi training, and how basically you have to sign up for it immediately at RD, in order to be able to do it. Does the Jack Sparrow Pirate Tutorial at MK work the same way? Is it something you have to sign up for early on to be able to participate?

There is no sign up. It's just a show and they randomly pick kids from the audience to participate.

Their is no sign up, you just go stand around and watch. They really want all the audience to participate but will also pull a few kids up on the stage with them as well. Its a fun show.

We did this in the morning shortly after getting my kids pirated-up at the Pirate League. If your kids look enthusiastic and eager (and if they look piratey, I am sure that also helps) and if they are standing at the front of the rope line, they are more likely to get picked for the show. Also, they have shows pretty frequently (you can look up the show times), so if your kids don't get picked and they are disappointed, you could always go on a ride or two and come back to try again. It was a lot of fun! Here is a pic of my older son with Captain Jack Sparrow (there is a PhotoPass photographer taking pictures, so they came out great!).

Is it just me, or does Cap'n Jack look like he's escaped from Rock 'n Roller Coaster?? LOL. OP, if you get to the stage about 20 minutes before show time, you should be right up front. Just wait in front of the stage until the pirate helper comes to put out the rope line.
