Our DD4 is having her first school friends birthday party in a few weeks. She is a die hard princess, but we don't really want to do an all out princess party because she wants to invite some of the boys in her class. I thought pirates & princesses might be fun. I have some ideas, but I thought my fellow DISers would probably have some fantastic ideas too. :thumbsup2 So... what do you suggest for some fun activities for 4 & 5 year olds for a pirates and princesses birthday party. TIA! princess:

Sorry I don't really have any ideas, but I just thought I'd give you a :thumbsup2 for the idea!!! Maybe you could buy pirate hats for all the boys and tiaras for the little girls in case someone doesn't come in costume. Have fun decorating!

Hi, I did a party like that a few years ago. I let all of the girls and boys dress up if they wanted to. We painted "treasure chests" (from the dollar bin at Michaels) and I put in plastic "diamonds". I had some little rhinestones, glitter paint, and metallic paint for the kids to use. Then we played candy land (I have a dvd version so the kids walk around on squares and when they land a specific spot instead of getting game pieces they can get something out of the "big treasure bag". After that the kids wanted cake and then just to play. It was a great party. I had the kids paint as soon as they got there to make room for other kids and by the end of the party they were mostly dry. Hope that helps.

My son's 4th birthday party was pirates and princesses, and we had an absolute blast. I did balloon swords for the pirates and balloon animals for the princesses, although several princesses requested pink swords. (Of course they got them :)) We had a pirate treasure cake. The kids made princess or pirate flags, gold crowns or princess tiaras, and treasure chests or royal chests. The boys and girls absolutely loved it. I had a friend paint a beautiful ocean scene backdrop with a pirate ship on it so we took each child's picture there during the party. It was a great momento to send with the thank you notes. We took a refrigerator box and made it into a "pirate ship" also. We took another one and made a pink princess boat too. The girls had a blast accessorizing their boat with feather boas and frilly things. The boys were shooting black cannon ball balloons at the pink ship.

We did a treasure hunt at my DS 5th Bday party. We had rhyming clues that we read to them & they had to figure out where the next spot was. You could also do a map or signs to the next clue. It was definitely the hit of the party. The "treasure" was a big box painted like a chest with the kids' goody bags in it.

I had a Princess and Knights theme for my DD's 3rd b-day party. One game that we played was called "Pass the Poison Apple". It's just like hot potato, except I got a realistic plastic apple and said that an evil queen came to my door and dropped off this apple for everyone to play the game with. But, don't eat the apple! The kids really seemed to like that one with the story before hand. I'm sure I elaborated on the story a bit and made it more dramatic. My DD, who is turning 5, still calls that apple the poison apple and makes sure that I don't even try to take a pretend bite out of it or I will fall asleep until my prince wakes me up.

I had also planned that party to do mermaid/men races in our front yard, but it was way too cold outside to do them. I bought green streamers and was going to wrap up their legs in the streamers and have them hop in some races. I'm kinda glad that it was too cold that day, but it sounded fun on paper.

Good luck!
