Has anyone had their kids do this? My boys are 4 and I am thinking of sending them... Do we have to provide life jackets??

My kids (4 and 6) loved it. Disney provides each kid with a life vest and pirate bandana complete with Mickey ears. It's also a great opportunity for the parents to catch a peaceful meal or massage at the GF spa. pirate:

It has been a couple of years but my son, nephew, and 2 nieces (at the time ages ranged from 4-9) went on the cruise and loved it. As a matter of fact, they still talk about Captain Bob and the cruise. There are life jackets on the dock and the kids put them on before they get onto the boat.

If memory serves me right, the CM's are certified lifeguards. They go around the beaches of various resorts looking for pirates and treasure. They did come back with trinkets and bandanas. While on the cruise they were given a snack of fruit and juice. While the kids were doing, this the adults rented water mice at the same dock and went playing on the water. Fun was had by all. pirate:

It's wonderful!! am must do, and a real value for the money!! they are safe and well taken care of. sign them up as soon as you can.. we have done all of the childrens experiences- Alice's Tea Party, Princess thing at GF for big bucks, the other cruise and Adventures in cooking. She loved the pirate cruise the best!! enjoy!

DD will be 8 and DN will be 5 that week. I'd feel better if they went together and I think that would be a blast. I'd never even knew this existed, but what a great idea. What do the parents do while they're gone?

We rented water mice for approx 30 minutes then went and grabbed a quick bite to eat at the counter service in GF. It gaves us just the right amount of time to be at the dock when the kids returned. :thumbsup2

You could have a quiet breakfast or go to the spa. I have a DVC membership so though I normally have no interest in pool-hopping, that day we will hang out at the GF pool for the day! :goodvibes

I told DD last night and she seemed really excited about it. I can start making my dining ressies April 14th and the Pirate Cruise is going on our list! (Too bad they don't have on for the adults - :rotfl2: )

I like that idea! Or a "murder mystery" cruise! Like Agatha Christie without the train! :lmao:

Just an FYI - They are now offering Pirate cruises at the YC/BC and CBR. They are doing a "Jester cruise" at POR. SInce the GF Pirate cruise fills up fast these are some alternatives. My kids have done the Pirate cruise twice and are signed up for the POR cruise this time. THey loved the Pirate Cruise!

Additional Info: FYI, Cap't Ron of IllumiNations Cruise fame has been working very hard on making the Caribbean Beach Resort Pirate Cruise the best of the best! He is retrofitting the pontoon boat with additional props (no spoilers here) and they have props all around the lake. He recently told me that the cruise is finally in the reservation system.

I also just booked this, dd loves solving mysteries! She's 9, no siblings so I wasnt sure, Janet2K posted her dd experiences, with pictures here, and I showed them to DD - and she got excited!! So we're booked.

Wish dh and I could have the Grand tea while she cruises, but its too early to have afternoon tea time at 9:30AM!! lol

:thumbsup2 to posters telling us to get there by 9:15am sharp the boat doesnt wait - it sails at 9:30 and you have to have life vests, and papers signed before the boat sails at 9:30!!

I'm sold on the pirate cruise. I have a note to book it once our 90-day window hits!

Do you know is they serve PB&J on the new cruises too? DD5 has severe peanut allergy and even though they will offer her a cheese sandwich, I just can't put her out there in the middle of the lake with all those peanuts.

I talked to the chef at the GF hoping they possibly sometimes offer a peanut free cruise and he said no.

Wow thanks for that!

I hadn't gone over to the PS calculator yet this year and I see a few things have changed!

No worries though....we're actually skipping this year :guilty: (got a pool put in) and I'm planning for our trip with friends in Feb. 2007.

You can bet I'll be on the phone booking in August!

Thanks again for the head's up!

Jill

No worries. I waited not knowing how popular they are and only got spots because a wonderful DIS person had to cancel and alerted us.
Enjoy the pool (we put one in last year, it is great!) and the trip. We went early Feb. 2005 and the parks were not crowded at all. On superbowl Sunday you could have shot a cannon thru Epcot and not hit anyone but my family.

my DS went in May 2003 and it was unseasonably hot during our stay - but he didn't have a great time. Only because the life jacket must be worn (naturally) and when it's hot outside that was really uncomfortable.

His little face was so pink from the heat we sat in the GF lobby with a drink for about a half hour to let him cool down before moving on. It was something I hadn't considered prior to our trip but I wouldn't do it again unless the weather was cool.
