Hi,

What were the Pirate Kidsuites like. The info available does not really show you how they are set up or the amount of space in a suite.

I am just beside myself trying to decide whether to stay at CBR onsite or at Calypso Cay!!

Thanks!

Elizabeth

We stayed in one of these last August. They are not that big or that private. The kid's area is like an alcove or a closet, really. There are two captain's beds that sit higher above drawers. They are smaller than twin beds, but I believe they were bigger than a toddler bed. The area is very cramped but it does have a tv and a game system. When you walk in the door the bathroom is to the right and there is a large table area with a microwave and refridgerator on the left. Then you are in the main area with the dresser and king bed and another tv. The room also had a table and chairs and maybe a wing chair. The room was small, but it was fine for us since we have little ones. There is no door or curtain on the kid's area. We did enjoy this hotel, though. The breakfast was an expanded continental. They had cereal and waffles and bagles and fruit and boiled eggs and pastries. The pool was small and had a small slide, but again, my little ones really liked it. I liked the smaller waterslide because I could let them go on their own and still see them. Their putt-putt was nicer than the free putt-putt I have seen at other hotels. I don't really remember the pirate theme, I think it was just a mural on their walls. We got this hotel for $55 a night and felt it was well worth it. Try www.valuetrips.com if they still have this available. You might also try www.lodging.com. We have used both, but I had to cancel my valuetrips reservation because we could not go.

zaxmom,

Thank you for your excellent response, it was just what I was looking for!

A hotel with great kids suites is the Holiday Inn Family Suites. The kids area has their own room with bunkbeds, a TV and video game system. There are often great deals on these rooms for the fall sometimes under $100 per night. See them at http://www.hifamilysuites.com/:jester:

I did look at the HIFS but thought against it after much consideration. I like the fact that Calypso Cay is newer and smaller in scale with a water slide in the pool area (which seems to be a huge factor in my children's minds) also I have stayed at other Country Inn and Suites and have always been pleased with the level of cleanliness and courtesy. We are also from Northern Maine so a Caribbean Themed resort wins over a train theme any day...LOL

If I did not have three children (youngest will be almost three at time of trip) then onsite at the Caribbean Beach Resort would be our first choice. The children love the look of that pool! I just think after ten days in a room with only two full size beds, we will be feeling a little cramped.

Cost is also a factor, even though this will be the most expensive trip we have ever been on. By staying at Calypso Cay we will be saving around 600.00 (that is with a AAA discount at CBR)

I still have a little time to think about it. We are planning on ten days in May!

Thanks for the thoughts...

I have stayed at both of these properties with my grandchildren. We enjoyed both. CBR has the Disney advantage, but for the $ the best deal was at Calypso Cay. The kids loved the pool and the free breakfast was a big added bonus.

I have ressies at HIFS (76/night) but am looking at an awesome deal for the Amerisuites - $49!!. How far is it from the parks? Are they equidistant or is one significantly closer? We have stayed at Amerisuites before (in VA) and was quite pleased with it. My dd loves Mini-golf, so that might be a bonus. I know the breakfast at Amerisuites won't measure up to HIFS,but we won't be able to utilize all the breakfasts - first day we get in too late and the third day we are doing Donald's Breakfastsouras, so we only need the breakfast for 2 mornings.

I HATE being so indecisive, but we are spending alot of $$ on the cruise and these 3 days before have to be budgeted carefully.

I have stayed at both the Country Inn and Suites at Calypso Cay and HIFS. To be honest I prefer the HIFS. It is closer, but only by a couple of minutes. The breakfast was better, but only because of pancakes and scrambled eggs. There is a little more room and privacy at HIFS, but not that much, it is still tight in there. The pool is bigger at HIFS, but no water slide (that was our deciding factor), but the putt putt was nicer at Calypso Cay. $76 is a great rate for HIFS, but the extra $25 a day could pay for some more Character breakfasts. I have no idea what I would do.

Calypso Cay is not that much farther. I think you can take a toll road that is right next to the hotel straight into Disney, but I am not sure. We did not go that route, we drove to 535? and kind of drove past the HIFS and MOWC into the parks. You can also easily get to 192 from Calypso Cay, but I usually stay away from that area.

I know I did not help you any, sorry if I confused you.

Calypso Cay won out over HIFS - Had to go with the $$$ we saved ($70+ dollars total!). The extra couple of minutes traveling is ok per my dh. We are doing 2 character breakfasts, so the "lighter" breakfasts they served of yogurt, etc at C.C. will be much better for us. We figured we will be pampered on the cruise, so food wasn't a factor. In the end it all comes down to the money I guess. Just hope we will be happy there.
