 I jjust saw on our local Philadelphia news that a pipe bomb was found near the waters surrounding Pleasure Island. After evacuating the area, the bomb squad was called in at the device was removed and exploded with no injuries. Living near Philadelphia, there has been numerous reports of a pipe bomber leaving devices all over the suburbs of Philadelphia. Now it seems that even WDW isn't totally safe from sick people who do things like this.

Planting such a device is certainly sick & wrong, but one wonders why they chose to report it in *local* news in Philadelphia?

All the same I'm glad no one was hurt (which would have made an even bigger headline).

The news always ties in related stories from different areas.
Usually it's due to them not having enough stories to fill up their broadcast time, so if they can link something together and get another couple of minutes of air time filled up then they're pleased with it.

There is alot of things that go on at both Citywalk and Pleasure Island that sometimes do and don't make it to the news.
My personal opinion is that it is harder to conceal these type of incidents because Disney and Universal don't have as much "backstage" areas at PI and CW to hide things from the public as they can do within the themeparks, so things tend to leak out a little more at both of these venues.

The Philadelphia news did not report the news in any way, shape or form in an accurate manner. First, the so-called "pipe bomb" was found in a garbage can far away from the waters surrounding Pleasure Island. The garbage can was in a far lot to the west of West Side. This was a very long way from Pleasure Island.
Second, it is unclear as of late today what the actual makeup of the device was. There are two or three reports that differ in the make up of the low level device. It could have been a fireworks explosive such as a M-80 packed into a pipe. Orange County Sheriff Kevin Beary said that the device had end caps "similar" to those of a pipe bomb. But, at this time, very little definitive information has been released to my knowledge as to the actual make up of the device. It is true that something exploded inside the garbage can and left a smoke trail. What it was is not clear.

Uh, This thread is about a pipe bomb that was found in MAY 2001 You're referring to today's incident.

LOL

I did see this on the news in Chicago also. But not really any information, just a blurb about it. I actually came on here to find out what was going on!

Wow, I thought the search feature was pretty much usless, but apparently WDWisTheBest has figured it out. I'm here right now and really haven't watched a single minute of TV. My friend called from S FL and said he heard about the pipe bomb at DTD. I said I had no idea what he was talking about. We were just at DQ until close and saw no extra security or indication that there was something going on there. I figured I'd pop on here to see.

I was puzzled too, as I know what the OP was referring to - that serial pipe bomber left quite a few of those (one in the parking lot of the apt complex I moved into in Phoenixville, PA, I later found out) and I don't think he ever was caught.
