My DD8 has traded our last several trips. I just found pins that are marked Disney but have a more traditional pin back (like GOH Badge) are those acceptable for trading or do they have to be the stick with back type?

Thanks
Sandy

Hi!
If they are genuine Disney copyright pins and say so on the back...
It depends on the castmember.
They are supposed to take them but not all of them will.
I won't try and educate them.
I won't fight with them, I just give them something else.
One technique which works well is to get them to give you the pin you want first. Then hand them your pin, say thanks, and scurry away. You aren't doing anything wrong they just don't know the rules. Try and remember to not do this two days in a row with the same cast member. Not all lanyard wearing cast members are into trading. They are only human and their training hasn't been very good as far as pin trading goes. My suspicion is that the part time cast members aren't getting a whole lot of info on pin trading. They are doing the best they can. Are these new pins? If they are older pins from the '70's, 80's, or '90's they might be very tradable to collectors. (Much too valuable to waste on lanyard trades.) Research them on <www.pinpics.com>. Just use the search feature, probably the second page...just enter a description of your pin and check off the approriate boxes.
Hope this helps,
Gene

Thanks Gene. As I said it is for my DD8 and my DB's 7 & 3. I don't want to make a scene or have anyone crying. The love the trading but it is costly if we can't buy some closeout thing. My DD has traded away some great CM pins just because she later decides she doesn't like them. For us it isn't about the value but the experience.

Hi Sandy!
Do you know about <www.cheappins.com> ?
They have special deals on Disney pins if you buy a package deal.
I think the pins are from the Disney Store a while ago but are perfectly tradable for lanyard trades. I assume you know that the teal colored cast member lanyards are for kids only and are off limits to the "adults".

Just like pin trading in general -- some CM's will take a certain pin, some won't.
I remember our first WDW trip. We had an extra Keys to the Kingdom tour pin. I asked several CM's and none would accept it.
In WS we happened on a very friendly custodial CM. I said to him -- Oh here's one but you probably won't take it.
He did.
Same with the Variety pins that were sold a year or so in local theatres and grocery stores. I had a few extra. Some CM's gladly accepted them. Some said no way.
I even see rubber pins on lanyards. They aren't suppose to accept those, but they do. And that is how I got my rubber Santa Mickey head. ;)
I once had a dinotopia pin I traded for in DAK. I was running low on traders later that day in MGM and offered that one. The CM didn't want to accept it, but did.

If one CM says no -- another CM will accept it happily somewhere else.

Thanks for the tips.

Yes, I've looked on cheappins.com but we go through so many pins, it becomes not so cheap. 3 kids x 2 trips per year x 20-25 pins, it really adds up. I have a friend of friend who has some wholsale connection and can get me really cheap pins but they have the standard "pin back" (like GOH badge). I would have to buy a very large quantity, which is fine It will last for 2-3 years but I didn't want to get stuck.

Thanks again
Sandy
